Hi, first post here, so I'm hopefully in the right forum. I'm currently looking at buying a Rock Xtreme 770, but I'm a little bit worried about it's potential performance with some newer games coming out (i.e Crysis and Call of duty 4). So I was wondering, does anyone have experience with this particular model? and would I be best to get it with a 8700m or pay extra for the 9750gtx?

Cheers

The 8700m will struggle mate, avoid it!

I've got the 7950gtx, it does ok, but remember there are no dx10 cards available for laptops at the moment.

Unless you really have to buy a gaming laptop, just buy a cheap laptop for work/college and a desktop for gaming, it'll be better and work out cheaper.

i cant comment on the graphics, but if your getting a gaming laptop, a few points ill make:

dont expect the battery to last long even when not gaming.
- and dont get in your mind you can play on the go!

Dont for peats sake plan on carrying it any further than from the lounge to your room. ive lugged mine internationally and it really is a killer, the bulk + mass break bones and your always fearfull of breaking it. you cant get thru turnstiles without limboing.

Lastly remember you cant use them on bus, coach or airplanes unlss you get a table seat or a leagroom seat or a table seat! there jut isnt space to open the screen enough to see things.

having said this: i have an old rock quaddra 64, great machine and a good company. recomended.

They seem a little expensive for the spec i think... the dell vostros are a lot cheaper and would be a better alternative in my opinion, however they do not offer as good a graphics card (8600gt) and i am not sure if they will offer the 8700... Does anyone know if they will introduce the 8700 into the vostros and when?

What is your budget for the laptop? And what rock xtreme are you looking at?

Also remember the battery isn't powerful enough to run the g/card at full power, the only way to get the best out of is it to have it plugged in.

They are more 'desktop replacements' than traditional portable laptops.
