Rolls Royce....too much?

Older, 21-23. You don't look 19.

I just can't imagine running a RR at such a young age is going to end well unless it is bankrolled some how - well off parents/family or teenage millionaire.

Go for it, beautiful cars to drive, like sitting in a leather arm chair. My family used to have a '76 Corniche complete with 8 track cartridge ICE and it used to purr on the motorway at 90. As they say, they are so quiet you can hear the clock tick.

But like others have mentioned above, the running costs are high. My dad drove it a couple of times to Portugal and back (in the days of cheaper fuel) and the trip in it sat around 15mpg cruising. Parts were still available but expensive.

What year was that if you don't mind me asking? How did you find the overall experience? I'd love one I think, they look bloody comfortable.

Im 44 now so it was a while ago:)

Anyway i had a 1968 shadow 1, and a 1977 shadow 2 before i moved on to Spirits :)

Hydraulics and rust are the 2 main problems.

Insurance is quite cheap actually, about £500 more than my 2003 1.3 Fiesta would cost. On my Mum's policy with my Mum being the main driver of course. Works out around the £2000 mark for insurance overall, which, if you're familiar with teenage insurance prices, is mental. You're all making sense with the cost of things, I'd have to make sure I got a mechanically sound example, if there's such a thing.

The one I'm looking at locally has had an LPG conversion, I wouldn't dare get one without a conversion. Sod 15 to the gallon :P

As for the cost of buying them, the one I'm looking at is around 4k, with decent paint work and pretty sound mechanics. I'd be willing to pay that to be honest, when you think about what you're getting. "Oh me? I've got a Rolls." Got to be worth it :P

I aint being horrible but it will be 10 to the gallon and if you have a problem with that it aint the car for you.

And 4k will be a shed that needs 10k spending to make it the car you want it to be.

The insurance you're talking about would be illegal

On side note, may be an urban myth but RR never published official figures for power/torque etc and if ever a customer asked how powerful their prospective purchase was the answer was always "Sufficiant sir."

Like it :D
Not a myth - I have a Parkers Older Price Guide floating around somewhere and am relatively certain that for power figures on the Rolls Royces it says something like "none officially published but described by the manufacturer as "sufficient"

They didnt put rev counters in Rolls variants and only later cars in Bentley for the same reason.

Wouldn't go near one for 4 k unless I wanted a shed to work on and restore.

You'll be a hit with the ladies at sixth-form though.
