Ive just booked myself in for the ontrack with the cb500 in august.

Has anyone been that has some advice to share?

Is it true that if you bin it at any point you get sent packing?

Cheers :)

I cant believe they would send you packing? Cant be much of a school if they send you away first time you get something wrong :s

Hope you have fun though! :)

Accidents happen but they will only Freak out if you don't listen to the advice that is given & act like a nutter.
We stuck my mates 14 year old daughter on the back of Liam & he wheelied the whole length of the start finish straight on every pass. :D +
It's a Great day out you'll Love it.

Clause 6.5

In such circumstances that the rider falls off his motorcycle whilst participating in the package, the company is entitled to terminate the rider from participation in the package without refund, where it considers it in the interests of health and safety to do so

in fairly small print lol..

Yea its probably incase you do something stupid and hurt yourself your not getting a refund :p

Id imagine they would get really bad press if they turned every learned away that dropped his bike or low slided at 20mph!

That's only so they can kick the Looneys out mate don't worry about it as long as you listen to your instructor & don't act a **** you'll be fine even if you do bin it, **** happens.
Funniest time i've had down there was when a few mates went down one of them being the son of a Legend on a bike who I won't name here, Anyway Son of Legend was flying & the Instructors couldn't keep up. :D
They didn't say anything at all apart from compliments but I was with some very well known riders.
The instructors down there are Awesome mate.

Well im back! No sign of an Adam, there were a **** load of instructers, it could have been anyone!

Just my luck it tipped it down from about 5am so the track was soaking wet. Mini review:

Seen as I live about 5 hours away and you have to be there by 7:30, I decided to camp the night before, best deal was about 30 minutes away in Milton Keynes. So up at 6:30, ready to set off at 7:00. Arrived at 7:30 and was sat around doing nothing for about an hour! I presume this is to catch the stragglers, annoying for people who turn up on time though.

Not sure if it's the norm for the cb500 groups or not but I had a one to one tutor which was quite good. First three laps were taken very gingerly to get used to the track. Gradually increasing the speeds and learning how to hang off the bike saw me going quite a bit quicker, confidence just kept growing every lap! I was lucky in that there was no one quicker on the day so I didn't have to slow down and move out of the way to let people passed, I can imagine if I had been on the receiving end I'd have been pretty miffed off by the end of the session though!

The instructor was great, helping me to push almost to the limit though he was holding me up (on purpose) in places where I could have went a bit faster, mainly backing off early into corners. There were a few corners which were just stupidly slippy, you could literally feel the bike moving like a fish tail for about half of the corner!

At first I was really hissed at the weather as I wanted to go there and nail it on some dry corners, can't beat that sensation of feeling like you're stuck to the tarmac! However, as a wet weather rider on the road I wasn't very confident at all, I've come away after the track day with a whole lot more confidence, I never realised how much grip/lean angle you could get in the wet!

45 minutes just isn't enough time on the track though. Does anyone know the track-time you get on the 600cc premier day?

In addition to the 45 minutes on track was the carpark training where you get to do slalom, sitting down, standing up, one legged, one handed, clutch hand only, on the tank.. tried it but surely not possible lol? Then did some throttle off free wheeling round a big U bend, lots of fun here inc knee down action. Finally ended with some braking techniques. Stoppies, locking the front wheel to find the balance (though I'm not sure you had to skid :p ) and then the instructor suggest some of us do the stoppie and then drive away straight after without putting feet down which obviously resulted in big wheelies lol!

All in all a good day, tempted to go back and do the 600cc but can't help thinking I'd be seriously hissed if it was to rain again, especially when it's £280!

Its the same track time, I did the premier session yesterday, it does state on the website that you get 1 hours track time I think, but it ends up around 45, had a great day even in the pouring rain, but I think an extra 15 minutes were really needed!

Just 45 minutes? At least the 500cc ontrack one dragged it out from 9:00 till 12:00 with the extra carpark stuff. I don't think I could justify £280 + my £100 travel costs for 45 minutes!

Sounds like the best option (for me) would be buying a £500 cb500 off the bay and doing track days instead, using my van to transport, I assume no tax/insurance/mot etc is required? At a quick glance they are about £100-150 and you get hours rather than minutes worth of time on the track!

Yeah its not the best deal really, was my first time on track though and ill be doing the same just getting a track bike now and hooning around on that, will be cheaper in the long run!

Agreed. I don't think I'd have been very good at a track day had I went on with no prior training. At least I can now go onto a track and press on :D

Nice writeup!
Yea dont seem like a great deal for that money to be fair :/

Do you mean sitting on the tank and doing the slalom? its a weird feeling but its possible, lean with your shoulders :D

And yea no Tax/Mot/Insurance needed for Track only bike, and on average the one's I have been to have been 20 minute sessions every hour, so you usually get around 2 hours total track time depending on how many red flags ;)
20 minuets full on track time is pretty tiring!

Yeh, a 20 min session on a hot day is pretty hard work. A couple of years ago for the last session before lunch they let our group stay out for 30 mins, it was a killer. appriciate how fit the pro racers have to be.

Was tempted to go on one of thses race schools, but for that little track time I dont think ill bother. Ill prob go the full on track bike route myself next year. makes far more sense, especally as I have a mate who wants to go halfs on the deal.

Yea they super fit specially the MotoGP guys!

Had that at Rockingham last year they gave the inters a 30min session because of all the previous red flags and it was a killer lol, was going to come in in they had not shown me the checkered flag :D
Best thing I did then was go to the gym, since going to the gym my riding fatigue has dropped dramatically.
