Rooney - 2 day fine + 2,400 pound fine

Why do these footballing authorities always give out some crappy fine like that I mean come on £2,400 thats the sort of money he earns in like 2 hours! Hardly a hardship for him.

It does take the **** how fifa turn a blind eye to a blatent headbutt cos the ref (who had his back to it!) booked him yet Rooney gets punished twice!

Same old *****, one rule for the English another for the rest of the world  :(

They only take action if its violent conduct --> red card. Figo's headbutt was obviously a red, but the referee only gave a yellow - even though he didn't see it. Therefore FIFA can't do anything about the headbutt as the referee only 'saw' it as a yellow card offence. Thats how I think it works..

Yes and therefore it's a stupid rule.

The action should be treated for what it ACTUALLY is, not just how the referee sees it.

Yep I think that is the reasoning the used.

Although I'd happily bet if Rooney had done what Figo had done and the result had been the same, FIFA would have found some way to take "further action".

Isn't that fine the same for any Red card though, I thought FIFA had fines set in place for certain things like shirt pulling, red cards etc?

Argentine pair banned over brawl

Cufre was an unused substitute against Germany
Fifa has banned two Argentina players for their part in the brawl following their quarter-final defeat by Germany on penalties.
Substitute Leandro Cufre was given a four-match ban and fined £4,800 for kicking Germany defender Per Mertesacker in the groin.

Maxi Rodriguez was banned for two games and fined £2,400 for throwing punches.

Why has Rodriguez been given the same punishment as Rooney when his actions were clearly worse?

Its strange - you would have thought Rooney would get the same as Leandro Cufre as they both involved kicks to the groin. Guess Rooney was lucky here.

Now it makes sense;)
Cufre got double so it can't be a mandatory punishment for those sort of offences, just what FIFA pull out of their hat of daft decisions.

Well, Rooney earns £75,000 a week, whereas Maxi, the poor lad, probably earns ONLY £25,000 a week.

Thus, although the fine amount is the same, as a proportion of income, the fine as far more devastating in Maxi's case than Rooney's case.

Anyway, I really don't see how punching somebody can be regarded as worse than stamping on someone's balls. They're both equally dirty actions IMO.

I'm sure neither of them are bothered about the money, the ban is the same though.
Rodriguez threw punches, no debate about it, Rooney may of accidently trod on Carvalho:)

Blame the ref I guess, he put it down as violent conduct so they had to investigate it.

It is a bit suprising though, I am sure I heard them say on the radio that Blatter said as far as he was concerned no more would come of the Ronney situation as his punishment had been dealt with on the pitch like Figo's.

Rooney got a red card though, so you could argue that at least 1 game of his ban was a mandatory one anyway - i.e he only received 1 game "additional punishment".
