ps football is general discussion for me as I dont normally watch unless England plays, where I do stand for the national anthem!

I don't see why the majority of answers here ask the OP whether he was singing or not. Unlike Rooney, the OP wasn't chosen to represent his country - in front of live audience and on television at that - surely everyone can agree that it is somewhat poor form not to be able or worse still, willing to sing her national anthem after being chosen as a representative?

He was chosen for his football abilities not his singing abilities.
