rooney's red card incident (video clip)

It's just the typical English "Oh Noes we were cheated out of the World Cup" attitude.

I don't care what you say, a player (Ronaldo) DOES NOT HAVE RED CARDS IN HIS POCKET.

It is not Ronaldo that sends Rooney off, it's ROONEY.

The ref MIGHT have just booked Rooney for the stampl, having seen the Portugal players wrestle him a bit.

However - pushing Ronaldo is an automatic Red card, that was utterly stupid - it wasn't Ronaldo that pushed Ronaldo... ROONEY DID.

Now if your looking to blame someone, try the ugly **** who committed the offence.

I'm pretty sure someone previously in this thread has said that a push like that is only a yellow. Tbh Rooney probably should have been booked after the whole incident, a red card was just completely over the top. Of course we weren't good enough to win the game, we didn't score during the match and then fluffed the penalties. Portugal deserved to win from that point of view. From an actual performance point of view though, England were the better side, created more chances actually went looking for goals even when down to ten men. I think we would have won easily if we had had Lennon on from the start and played with two strikers :(

Rooney doesn't have cards in his pocket either, noob.

That 'push' wasn't really a push. Almost like the stamp wasn't a stamp. He merely nudged him in disbelief at what a club mate was doing.

Nothing to do with diving, he's a cheating scumbag for pushing/asking the ref to send someone off, then blatantly loving every second of it when it happens.

Is sportsmanship truly dead ? Would appear to be.

He didnt do the usual give him a card gesture though we went in and pointed to his teammate on the ground. Usually if they want a payer carded the wave their arms in the air making a card gesture. Didnt see that from ronaldo nor id dI see him push the ref. Pretty sure he'd have been of if he had. Though I'm sure he knew what he was doing. Rooney needs to grow up and learn to control himself better.

End of day England played better without rooney in the team. Just cant take penalties to save themselves. Unlike the Germans who aint missed a penalty since 1992.

The source added: “Wayne is sure Ronaldo set out to get him sent off — and yet he believed the banter at the beginning of the game was just that. He is now sickened that a team-mate set out to destroy him.

If that was the case then more fool wayne for falling for it.

I've already stated that I thought initially the decision was harsh but even the pundits can't agree.( Geoff Hurst also has a pop at him, can't find the link just now though) I think there's little chance of consensus being reached here.

Jol: "Ronaldo is a disgrace to football"
I think Martin Jol hits the nail on the head there, as usual :D
Bobby Robson
"Rooney got sent off through a bit of stupidity on his part but he also got sent off because the kid was irritated and he was frustrated.

"He was on his own, he was chasing hopeless balls and high balls and had nothing to play with upfront. He's young and he's inexperienced and we needed that double strikeforce."

Robson added: "Rooney has to apologise to the manager and the rest of the players.

"He lost control of himself and lacked a little bit of discipline but he's young and we know we have a terrific player in him. He's got to learn that the art of good behaviour on the playing field at international level is paramount."

But he didn't. All he did was push him to one side, thats not a red card offence.

Letter of law says raised hands is red card. Got to be poor ref to give it for that though but then ref standards have been poor at this world cup so not surprised. However ref told sven it was for in his eye the stamp.

He says he though it was a stamp therefore he had to go. wether that is true or not dont matter. its in the past just have to hope that when fifa view it they see it as acidental. Again though its fifa so he will probs get 3 match ban.

Mind you he aint scored an international goal for 2 years cround has a better score late recently so maybe he'll get to extend his run. Thought he played well as loan striker when down to 10 men.

Now, I don't post in the Sports forum very often but am curious about one small detail that this thread has - so far - seemed to miss.

When having been kicked/trodden on/whalloped/accidentally knocked in the groin, I personally have been in agony for around two or three minutes during which time I have wanted to die.

The next five/ten minutes are spent normally sitting down unable to move my legs without causing an unpleasant amount of pain.

If I remember correctly, the Portugese player didn't really exhibit many of these characterisitics. Now, I may be a bit of a ***** when it comes to my anatomy but I just wanted to point out the disparity.

With clearer regard to the match, I actually think Ronaldo should have been booked prior to Rooney's sending off for diving like... well... a European. I think there were some dubious decisions in the match (as there seem to be in the past two world cups) that went both ways, but I think the referees in general should be made aware to 'crying wolf' by players, regardless of their team/club/etc.

I actually feel quite sorry for Ronaldo: somebody who has to make up for his team's obvious lack of flair in attack by falling over and yelping. I think Figo did well (when he was standing up) but on the whole it was a very average performance by both sides. Yes, England woke up after Rooney was sent off but WTF were they doing before that?. Still, I think it will be very difficult for Ronaldo to play in this country after the incident, regardless of whether or not it was malicious.

Good to see Gary Neville give Ronaldo a 'friendly' push away from the incident! :)

We were obviously lucky the ref didn't see that or else we might have had nine players on the pitch. ;)

Exactly, people are quick to say 'Rooney needs to calm his temper' - eh, he hasn't done anything wrong.

If either of those two instances are red card offences we better get used to seeing teams go down to 10 men, because pushing and shoving happens in every single game.

As for the 'stamp', I firmly believe it wasn't intentional, as his foot goes down he doesn't add any force to it. He's simply putting his foot down, it has to go somewhere.

we all can be great after the game,a ref only has that time to make his mind up,rooney has a rep for being hot-headed
2 wrong dont make a right weather he stamped or not, push was final straw
at end of the day, england didn't as good as they should, get over it and plan for next wc or euro
like other countrys have too
every game in world cup had good and bad discisions
it was very poor performance and setup that lost the wc for england
learn from it

just heard on sky news that Rooney and Ronaldo have kissed and made up via text messages and Rooney wished him well in the World Cup

That must mean that Ronaldo is definitely leaving Man Utd cos I couldn't honestly see them comfortable on the same pitch in the same team again :D

Exactly, if you get kicked in the groin you are in agony, need ice and are carried off the pitch. I think it was a TAT game where a player got hit full force in the goolies by the ball and was carried off nearly in tears.
That was Dwight Yorke. You could see it troubling him still right at the end of the match.
