I currently use an RT-AC86u as my router which is in the house, however my fibre line comes into the garage and I want to setup POE cameras outside.

My plan is to have all of the cables for these cameras (3 maybe 4) plug into a switch in the garage. To do this, I need to have a router in the garage. The RT-AC86u does me well for WiFi around the house as it's central so I dont want to move it. What's a good router I could get, less than £100, that has at least 2 LAN ports? The router wouldn't need to provide WiFi as I'd turn the RT-AC86u into an access point. It must be capable to give me my full speed, 1Gb up and down.

I did think about using a Ubiquiti AP but I'd use the LAN ports on the router for cabled devices along with another switch I have plugged into it.

Why do you need another router for PoE cameras? Surely you run an Ethernet cable from your router in the house back to the garage, connect your PoE switch there and from that cable out to the cameras? I guess I’m confused what WiFi has to do with PoE cameras as they’ll get both power and network connectivity from the cable you run to them surely?

Due to my setup, I can't run another cable back as I already have a cable from the ONT (not supplied by BT or Virgin) to my router that does run along skirting board in the living room. The plan is to connect ONT to router in the garage, cable to switch for cameras and also another cable to the access point in the house using the existing cable.

Did the ISP supply a router you can use in the garage with its wireless disabled?

No, but I think I have something that I can use instead of buying new.
