I have a KCorp 575 wireless router and a Dlink DSL 300T ADSL modem. Basically as both devices have the same IP addy (192.168.1.1) i firstly switched the router to be accessed via (192.168.1.2).

I then disabled DHCP on the router and enabled it on the modem and voila, i have internet access. Only problem is without the DHCP enabled on my router, all other computers/laptops connected to the router can't access the internet.

There also is an IP conflict in Windows without DHCP on the router with all the other computers connected to it unless i manually assign an IP. This still however doesn't allow the other computers on the router access the net however?

If i do enable DHCP on the router, i get no conflict but all PC's connected to the router don't have access to the internet.

Any way around this?

Use different subnets. Put your modem on 192.168.1.1, the wan of the router should then pick up a dhcp address from the modem of something like 192.168.1.2 for it's wan port. Then enable dhcp on the lan port of the router and give the router an ip address of 192.168.0.1 (different subnet to 192.168.1.*). Then all computers plugged into the router will get an ip of 192.168.0.something, and be able to connect to the internet.

I gave my router a different subnet á la 192.168.0.1 however i can't seem to get to the admin now as 192.168.0.1 brings up nothing after various restarts and resets. Any ideas as to why this has happened?

As in manually assign my current PC to an IP? (as well the subnet mask and gateway)

Ok, that didn't work. How would i do that?

Either that, or set the router to dish them automatically.

Control Panel -> Network Connections -> your network card -> Properties -> TCP/IP -> Properties. Fill in 192.168.0.2, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.1.

Yeah, i did that but it was still causing me grief. My techie mate was able to figure it out as the router's WAN settings were set to specify the IP 192.168.1.10, when it should've been set to obtain automatically. DuH!

Anyway i've now come to another problem, the modem isn't able to reconnect if disconnected apparently. Then when i reset it, the username and password of my ISP is lost, so i have to manually re-enter it in the modem admin. What a pain.

Thanks for all your help guys.

There should be an option to "save"/"write" the settings to flash/NVRAM/a microscopic bit of paper.

On another note, what combi router/modem do most OCUKer's use?

Cisco 877 with Advanced IP Services IOS here.

Question for you - is the 877 capable of routing lots of different networks on different VLANs? I know it's VLAN aware - but if I set up 10.0.0.0/24 on VLAN1, 192.168.0.0/24 on 2, 192.168.5.0/24 on 3 etc, can it route between them all?

in the interests of asking your secondary question...

i use a netgear DG834G all in one router/model/wirelessAP.

it's great, apart from the fact you can't bridge two of them together :(

What are the advantages of bridging two together exactly?

As for my previous problem, i found disabling the "Set Route" in my ADSL modem admin settings has so far resulted in no disconnects from the internet.

Before with it enabled it would keep disconnecting as my mate thinks the router was trying to connect using the old route to the modem, or something. I weren't quite following. :(

Ah poo, guess that didn't fix it at all. The net was not working this morning. Only thing i found weary was that the router's WAN settings were all 0.0.0.0 for the IP, subnet, gateway and DNS. So the modem died and the router can't access it i'm thinking.
