Royal Baby soon to put in an appearance

Apparently the whole country is 'excited for them'

Cheers Dave.

Why would it remotely bother me if a bunch of people I don't know, or don't even care about give a chuff if/when I have children?
I really hate the way the media do that.

"The entire nation is...." - just stop it, it's not the entire nation - support is not at 100% neither has it ever been.

Stop pretending the UK is one single minded collection of drones.

Who's 150m? It's not theirs, it the people's / the country's money. :)

As for tourists - France and other countries who have castles and old history are still surged with tourism - it's not because of a royal family.

I'm not denying they do bring some tourists to the yard, but their milkshake ain't all that.

Yes, for different reasons. you can go in those French castles, but you can't really go in Buckingham Palace, for example.

Listening to Sky News at times it's been amusing. I only switched on the past 45 minutes. That Sarah Hewson is like watching some sort of trivia. It's coming across so pathetic. Like as if no woman has ever given birth. Like the first time man stepped on the moon.

Kay walking through some of the buildings almost ready to jump up and down. They really get sucked into their own hype.

LoL now all the news stations across the world with Bag End music.

BBC News - "Duchess in labour as world awaits"

Really?....

The whole world is waiting now is it?.., you would think it was the second coming the way the media is going on about it.

Well obviously it depends upon what measure you use. I used Human Development and you used Gross GDP. But tell me this, where would you rather live if your income was GDP Per capita of that nation: Sweden, or China? If the former, you tend to suggest your own measure (Gross GDP) is a poor one when measuring a nation success.

GDP favours bigger nations, which is why China, Brazil and India are all experiencing an explosion in GDP without much of an improvement in quality of life.

You said "successful and stable", not "nice place to live", which is much more subjective. Were I to move abroad, I'd look at the USA, Canada, and France before anywhere else. As said, that's entirely subjective, but even if a monarchy is coextensive with good living conditions it doesn't mean that there is a causal relationship.

Heh. The woman Kay is speaking to at the moment, a doctor, she said this "could" be days. Oh and champagne all ready. Oh and twitter tv!

Media coverage is shocking... its going between two anchors (i think), one in front of the hospital, the other in front of the palace, with absolutely no information. If there is NO information which there isn't and there won't be until someone leaves the hospital (which at that point the news will take time as they travel to the palace) then they should report other news... I can't believe for one second if this didn't happen there is no other news that would have been reported!

Our boss has just sent us all home for the next few days so we can follow the birth. It's a crucial moment in our nations history.

But!

What if...

What this...

What do you think will happen?

When will it happen?

Royal worship has to be the worst kind of celebrity worship possible, to actually want to be a serf - to view oneself as a lesser compared to another human being.

It's actually quite pathetic, have some self respect.

What part, the media? presenters just do what they are told or they'll get someone else to do it.

thats on the basis that there was the first coming initially. but seeing as its a made up story the comparison is pretty poor. child birth is real, that whole jesus thing.....well :p

Agreed. Some fall in revenue might occur, but people still flock to Hampton Court Palace and I don't remember Henry VIII being in residence.

I don't recognise the position, and I'm a firm republican in opinion. I am not her subject, and don't accept that someone is born "royal" at all. I just don't recognise it.

Don't get me wrong, I'll stand for the national anthem, I'd be respectful to them if I met them (it's called being a good human being) - however, I do not see her or the royal family as anything more than just an antiquated idea, which is "quaint".

I totally agree. I would retain the monarchy but cut it back MASSIVELY. She does a great job but nobody should have to bow to her or anyone else. They are humans, nothing more. The amount of hangers on and archaic laws still in effect that benefit them and the 'aristocracy' is criminal.

What utter rubbish.

Your telling me that Windsor Castle would have even half as many visitors if it were some unoccupied castle?

The amount of uninformed short sightedness in this thread is unbelievable.

Yes actually just like any other former country that has had a monarchy  France does pretty well in tourism being a republic and all
