Royal Mail Xmas Casuals

I know someone who worked 1 night in a sorting office, on the night shift. He said that night felt like it lasted over a week, it just wouldn't end. Sure enough he didn't go back. :p He's worked in the Royal Mail MDEC as a keyer though for over a year on nights as a temp and found that to be easiest thing ever.

Are there no Royal Mail MDECs near you instead? They also recruit xmas temps and the work although slightly less paid is FAR easier.

I'd imagine so. I looked into it about a month ago and all the places in my area had been filled. I think it's just a case of first come first serve as pretty much anyone can do the work.

If you're with the Jobcentre they should be able to forward you for an interview.

I applied for the job the day it appeared on their website which also happened to be my signing on day, told the job centre woman about it no more than 2 hours after seeing and applying for it and just got 'oh good'

I asked if she knew when royal mail start letting people know and the stupid woman had no idea

I agree some of the advisors at the Job Centre are awful. I've got a very very good one at the moment though who is really helpful, putting me forward for a lot of jobs.

I don't think you can really expect her to know when royal people will start letting people know though, the jobs are just advertised through JCP. JCP don't handle any of the applications unless otherwise stated.

I guess so, I'm just annoyed I'm not getting anywhere

I've tried asda, sainsburys, tesco, poundland, debenhams, argos, wilkinson, lidl, hmv. Heard nothing from any of them yet

Managed to get an interview for Clinton cards and the guy said he had done 40 interviews for 2 jobs, not hopeful of getting either :/

I'm young, flexible with dates/times, no problems with minimum wage and still getting no where :(

Same here. You've just got to keep applying mate. Keep at it and something will come along.

Over the months I've applied for loads and loads of jobs, but only had 4 interviews and 1 job offer.

I did Royal Mail Xmas casuals about ten years ago while at college. I really enjoyed it, for my part I got to work really local to me, meet a lot of interesting people whether they were students at uni to chat to, retired people etc. It was hard work and a bit mind numbing but the atmosphere was good and I did a variety of sorting roles there. I can appreciate though that back then a lot of the people then were friends or family of the regular post men, or just generally from the local area and that attitudes ave changed! The best bit was being invited back in the following March for another 9 months casual work although it rather impacted my work at college!

Searching for work is tough, my contract is up on Christmas Eve so I am on the hunt now. It seems as bad as it was when I was out of work and hunting in early 2009.

Went for the registration day today. Documents all checked out fine (although he didn't even look at them all) but they only had full-time hours available (e.g. monday to friday shifts) so I'm on a resource list in case they need anyone for a few hours. Was a bit of a waste of time really.

Applying online just incase they have anything available still, Desperate for something to last until after christmas to give me enough time to look properly.

Why are they asking me my mothers maiden name?
