Royal Navy Nuclear Fleet now controlled by Windows XP

Lucky it's not vista. "Are you sure you want to fire missile? Are you really sure you want to fire missile? Do you want to check your target again?"

All jokes aside, even the best configured Windows PC's fall over every now and then, really wouldn't want that happening at an important time..

All computers fall over every now and then, no matter what operating system is used.

If it's for a nuclear fleet they they'll have some decent redundancy in there I would have thought.

The UK defense all rests on one thing... and only one thing... MICRO$OFT WINDOW$ XP!

What would happen if they went to war with say Russia and they had Windows Vista?

Who would win? :p

See no problems with it. It's going to be maintained to a high standard and it's a solid as any other O/S out there (when configured correctly with approved hardware).

BAE have totally stripped down Windows and can barely be compaired to a destop OS anymore.

Id say more, but id lose my job etc.;)

Would have thought the military used the best software engineering minds to make their own operating systems and such. If the military hardware developers and the like can make all those weapons and crafts, why can't they do the same for the interfaces?

NASA use a windows 2000/XP derivative, don't think they've had many problems.

I wonder what the XP system are actually in control of. Id have expected a Real time OS to be in charge of critical systems. Unless XP has been modified heavily to make it more real time.
