I have been having a few little issues with the RS4 of late so I handed it into Audi on Monday and asked them to make it better again. The engine management light was coming on now and again for no obvious reason, well that's what their diagnostics told them when they plugged them in and I was also concerned it was a little flat and though still quick enough it simply didn't feel like it should. The drivers seat bolsters had never worked as they should and would not stay inflated and there were a few internal rattles that needed finding and fixing.

Got the call today and it seems the power/horses loss has been tracked down! I don't have the exact details yet as I will get this when I collect it but some sort of valve within in the intake system has failed, meaning its not been breathing as it should. As this valve is tied in to the exhaust flaps these too have failed so not only is it breathing with a cold its not able to clear its throat. They have fitted 2 new rear exhaust sections today and a new intake system gets fitted on Monday. None of this showed up on their diagnostics but after persistence from me that it simply was 'wrong' they have gone the extra mile and I have been proved correct.

The other bits are fixed so it will be interesting to see how it reacts when I collect it and if the new bits make it feel as it should, also nice that this is all done under warranty too. This will also explain why 366bhp was what I got on the RR at Thorneys!

Least the issues being tracked down, i hate dealers most will only do as little as needed.

Whats the 'normal' BHP these chuck out on the RR, are they all under the Audi quoted figures?

Well from what I have read and been told no B7 RS4 seems to hit its numbers, most being between 360 and 400. Mine was 366 but was running 95 RON 10 miles before the RR event, I topped it with V Power on the day and this will have an impact, maybe 10-15 horses. Its not slow, it just never quite felt as sharp as I felt it should and hopefully this will address this issue. Audi Stafford have been very good to be fair, given me a quality loaner and have gone the extra mile so fair play to them.

Will you be getting it RR'ed again to see if the horses have come back? Or just go on how it drives?

I am actually not bothered about the RR to be honest, it was an event I go to annually in support of MTorque rather than a search to find the real power of my car. I knew it wasn't right since I got delivery and I knew something wasn't doing what it should but it wasn't really effecting me day to day so I just put it to one side. Its only when the emission light came on again for the 4th or 5th time I got annoyed and said "sort it".

I will know, onces its up to temp if its better or not, I wont need a RR to tell me really but I might stick it on TMS's rollers again just out of curiosity....and to see if I can win me tenner back from Phatgixer!

Well I collected it today and its much better. It seems they have found my lost horses and its actually over 5K where the difference is most obvious and the induction noise and V8 growl is louder than it was before sounding much meatier. Car feels much more lively and much sharper and certainly quicker. They replaced some induction 'stuff' and put 2 new back boxes on the car so all seems to flow better.

Will pop it over to TMS after Christmas and see what the numbers now look like, might even see 400bhp which is rare for an RS4. Watch this space...
