RTX 3080 and 120htz TV options (purchase)

Get an OLED if you can. I've been gaming on my 55 LG C7 for 3 years now and no issues at all. The image quality is amazing. I'll be upgrading to a CX or newer if available when I get a new card, probably early next year.

Just get the OLED from John Lewis and pay the £140 for 5 years accidental damage which includes burn-in.

As already said though, a lot of tech has been added to prevent burn-in.

I’ve been gaming solidly on my C9 for a couple of months now and no issues but I have the peace of mind for the next 5 years at least in case it does occur.

100% what this guy said, JL now got the 48CX in stock you just have to call them I think within few days or purchase and ask for the burn in insurance, JL also the only company in UK to cover burn in with OLEDs.

This way all sides are covered, I won't be hiding task bars, icons or worrying about falling sleep or worrying about static logos, the burn in prevention software should kick in anyhow it's not got one but a couple of burns in prevention methods. The insurance can just be peace of mind really.

Also, massive thread here on this subject:https://www.overclockers.co.uk/forums/threads/lg-48cx-oled-4k-120-hz.18883464/page-52

And don't worry about the new Geforce 3x bug found on the LG oleds its getting fixed in a few weeks time (RGB 4:4:4) bug.

For pure gaming and TV usage sure, but it simply can't be used as a sole desktop monitor. Your task bar, desktop wallpaper, desktop icons, google chrome bookmarks, MS Word/Excel/Outlook work etc etc will all burn in quickly. I say this as someone that would have got a 48CX over my current AW3420DW if not for this.

I have the CX48, desktop icons hidden with a click of the mouse unless you need them and task bar auto hides and appears when you need it. You can either change your desktop picture everyday or just have a black one. These OLEDs have burn in protection now, bright logos get automatically dimmed by the TV. I'm not worried in the slightest. Dark mode probably helps and is far nicer setting anyway.

Yup regarding OLED burn in it's definitely not as big a problem as it used to be and is blown out of proportion imo. Like others have said, as long as you aren't playing the same game all day every day for years on end (e.g. playing League of Legends every day) then you'll be fine. Some people are saying to go with a Samsung QLED instead of an OLED... it's not even a comparison when it comes to black levels. I have an LG C9 and it is miles ahead of any other TV technology imo, best tech out there. Rtings did a very good burn in test on YouTube if you wanted some peace of mind.

Sorry I beg your pardon? There's actual burn in insurance? That literally negates the only potential downside of having one and using it as a standard desktop monitor. I wouldn't even bother hiding my taskbar/moving windows about. If it burns in after a year, just claim on the insurance and get a new one?

Surely there must be a catch? Could you kindly tell me everything about this because if there's actually no catch, I'll buy a 48CX tomorrow and sell my AW3420DW and never look back.

freesync however is AMD - i have a nvidea card if that makes any difference

Just an FYI, a freesync TV can use gsync on the newer Nvidia cards now.

I have 3080 and 2018 qled and all it takes is for you to switch on freesync premium on the TV and the Nvidia 3080 does the rest.

I wouldn't touch an OLED with a barge pole for gaming. If you play anything with static UI elements you will end up with screen burn which is not covered under warranty. Personally I don't have any games that do not have static UI elements.

You'd be better off with a Samsung QLED, they are also made with high refresh and freesync but do not burn.
been using it for months without issues, for 12 hours a day for Work & for gaming

including coding daily & WoW

You'll be laughed off the forum soon. There's a group of children on this forum that insist that LG OLEDS burn in quickly and can't be used as gaming monitors. Meanwhile, those of us with OLEDS just laugh in high contrast and perfect blacks at them, imagining the black out bleed prone IPS, VA, or TN 1080 or 1440P crappy monitors they use instead!

JL are literally the only retailer to include burn proof protection, if you search for any oled TV on their site say the LG 55CX and on the right it says 5 year protect plus under that is a leaflet link which shows everything covered in green including screen burn in. It's done in partnership with D&G Insurance and cost £140 usually.

You won't be able to get a new one exactly if burn in occurs but certainly repaired by D&G, usually they just swap out panels or faulty parts from what I have read. The only reason I feel they are doing this is the oled TVs are now designed with many features (not just one but a few) to prevent burn in so really burn in should not be an issue at all as long as those features are enabled.

The issue at the moment is their site is not updated online to include insurance (check the JL 48cx page), they only got stock of the 48CX yesterday and it may take a week or two to get the insurance checkbox option available online so some are calling up directly to JL quoting the order number and being patched through to D&G and taking out the insurance directly with them so it's a bit of an effort but you also have 30 days to take out the insurance after you have received the goods.

I only am taking out the Protect plus since I worry about burn in issues but really its unwarranted and also want the accidental cover in case I have an accident, touch wood had never use it.

You've just cost me £2300 old boy, (48CX + £800 for a RTX 3080 with HDMI 2.1, more if I end up having to get a 3090). Please contact JL and NVidia respectively for your commision, will post pics in a month or so when I've hopefully joined the OLED gang.

ha wish I did get paid from them, You will love it enjoy !

I bought an LG CX oled to go with an eventual rtx 3080 new build..I'm reading that the firmware needs fixing right now to reach 4k 120hz and could take a few weeks to roll out. At least both waits cancel each other out for now!

I was originally set on a QLED for gaming such as a Q90T. With me personally being a blinds open lights on movie watcher  But the CX made all other models' black levels to appear crushed by comparison.

That aside, I already loathe the swishy nintendo wii nunchuck / cornish pasty remote control..It runs on 2.4ghz wifi and already interferes with a nest outdoor cam nearby.

Moreover, it displays a hideous no signal message plastered over the beautiful backdrops if you are a cord cutter without an hdmi plugged in or tv tuned to dtv/satellite etc. The transparent box cannot be turned off manually and will stay there until you enter a webos app such as netflix.

This wasp I am chewing really tastes like buyers remorse!

- Just buy any normal LG remote. It's been the same design for years and even the big chunky ones still work. You might lose a button or two like the Amazon Prime button.

- Use the native Gallery app to display images without a No Signal message

I did think about a harmony like replacement, not really adverse to shopping for another lg non wobbly one either. But it's early days with the TV I may learn to like it before I shop around.

I did see the gallery, I wish there was a way for it to autolaunch instead of the TV tuning mode for dtv. I can see an option to turn off the background image but not the no signal box. It would just appear more uniform on launch but ai am keeping my fingers crossed for a fix with the new firmware as I've seen others with the same simple frustration. Otherwise I cannot fault it, lovely picture and sound with just a subwoofer attached and soundbar off.
