RTX 3080 worth it over RTX 3070?

Are the stability issues sorted on the 3080. I seem to recall when they first came out there were problems with some of the components on the back of the cards.
Wasn't that fake news by youtubers who jumped the gun for views?

@OP I would wait for the 4070/4080, but if you can't wait I'd get the 3080. 3600 will bottleneck it so CPU upgrade will be in order, I've even found my 5800x bottlenecking the 3080 in some games at 1440p.

Looking on ocuk the cheapest 3080 is £170 more expensive than the cheapest 3070. Both are Inno3D make.

So is it worth the extra money? I game at 1440p and i have a 165Hz monitor. CPU is a ryzen 3600.

Is the 3080 within budget? It's really very simple, especially if you hang onto cards for a while, buy the best card you can afford within your budget.
So if the 3080 is within your budget buy it. If you are going over budget to buy it, don't just buy the 3070.

However, if I was a person who only upgraded every so often, I would be very reluctant to buy anything now as the next generation is out in a few months. You will probably be able to buy a 4070 for less than you would pay for a 3080 now.

Whatever card i get i will be keeping for a long while. If i can get a decent 1440p ultrawide or 4k screen then i may do in future.

I had planned to get the card and see how it went, then get a new PSU if needed. Then maybe a 5600X or 5700X after that.

Then on top of all that ive seen a nice full build on marketplace with a 3070 and an i5 12400F for around £850 so wondering if that may be better.
3090 then.

Neither the 3080 or 3070 have enough Vram for me to say keep it, or just wait for he 4000 series.

Someone still got an axe to grind I see..... @TNA

Would be silly to buy a 3090 now when a 4070 will match/beat it for half the price in 4 months or so. Makes no sense to spend £1300+ when you'll be getting the same and more for £500-700.

Just like every gpu purchaser in the past, people "upgrade" for the extra grunt, not to get more "vram" (better go yell at the 2080ti owners who "upgraded" to a 3080 ) unless they have a serious need for some kind of workload where vram is the only thing that matters. Should a 3080/3070 struggle because of vram, as pointed out, reducing 1-2 settings that hit vram hard will remove the issue, same way turning "off" RT in 90% of RT games on RDNA 2 solves its performance issues, not rocket science. You have already had many 3080 and 3090 owners saying they will be upgrading because of the lack of grunt (especially in RT titles) @ 1440 and 4k in several games as of right now, especially those who refuse to use dlss/fsr.

Right ive decided on the 3080 and on that note ive got a new sealed RM850 PSU off marketplace.

I like the TUF RTX 3080, but is it really worth the £80 premium over the cheapest Inno3D model?
If you were thinking of going 1440p UW or 4K as you stated then the 3080 was your only real choice. I would pay the extra and get the TUF; it will run cooler and quieter than the Inno and hold it's value longer. I've had Inno cards before and vowed never again. ;)

I hadnt but it looks like i can get a 12gb card for the price of the tuf 10gb card. Inno3d or zotac. Dont like the look of the cooler on the inno, so probably be the zotac.

Or the 3080ti vision ive been offered on facebook for £850

You will need a PSU upgrade for the 12GB 3080, 3080ti and also a 3090. Your 650w will not do for any of these cards.

A 3070 is the max I would use on that 650w psu.

With the transient spikes you could be asking for problems depending on the quality of the PSU. Incidentally, I have gamed on a 3090 briefly with a 650W PSU but I had the sneaky feeling eventually it would trip the OCP and shut down the system. ;)

I'd make an offer on this 3080 Ti FE.

It's at 810. They might take less, but it's still a good buy at that price.

I have one and it's a cracking card, superb build quality.

If you can get a new PSU and have to spend now then the 12GB model is the long termer. Dont get the 10GB model when @Tired9 and @tommybhoy shared its weakness (particularly if its almost the same price!).
