Hi all,

Once upon a time my mondeo would do 550 miles to a tank without any problems, most of which was motorway miles.

Now I'm doing around 300miles to a tank, but I am now doing far less mileage and obviously the weather is partly to blame but surely not 250miles worth?

Is something wrong with the car, its only done around 3000miles since last serviced and 130k overall?

Mine's currently doing the same and was only marginally better at around 350 per tank during summer.

I asked on here before and was told to check the handbrake wasn't sticking. Wasn't the issue with mine unfortunately.

What's your driving style like?

ZOMG HIGH MILEAGE CAR FALLING APART??!!!?!?!

Really I have no idea, servicing or some sort of dodgy modification? Try driving like a total saint for 100 miles and then brim the car again to get an 'actual' MPG readout?

your not very clear in the OP but have you stopped driving on the Motorway so much and replaced it with driving around town, if so expect you MPG to take a massive hit my car gets up around 60MPG on the motorway but is down to mid 40's around town.

I'm not driving it any differently, yes it has gone from mainly motorway miles to mainly town driving but I really didn't think it would make a difference that big.

Handbrake sticks sometimes after a lot of rain but it immediately lets go when I start off.

The type of driving makes a big difference. A pure 45 mile motorway run driving like a slow saint nets me up to 40mpg in my 2L petrol Mondeo. In practice it is more like 35-37mpg.

This winter my mileage has been down in the 27-30mpg range due to being stuck in subzero town and motorway traffic.

27mpg nets a maximum range of 344 miles in my car. 40mpg nets a maximum range of 511 miles.

A range of 550 miles with a 58L tank is 43mpg. You will get nowhere near that in town with a petrol Mondeo and I'm sure it'll still be much less in a diesel.

Just thought I'd add that I have since brimmed my tank and used dot on a quarter of a tank since (14.5l) 130 miles covered

Worked this out and seems to be about 40MPG seems to have gone up quite a bit since the snows ****ed off

That said I don't thrash the car because theres simply no need with the low down torque in these.
