Hi all,

I own the retail and Steam versions of GTA IV. Both are installed.

The Steam version starts and runs fine. However I want to use the retail version for mods (as I understand you can't really mod the Steam version properly, or am I wrong?).

Anyway, the retail version won't start at all. If I go through to the install location and click on 'LaunchGTAIV.exe', I get a small command prompt window up for a few seconds, then it dissapears and nothing happens.

Is there a problem running two installs? Has anyone else got their installs set up like this?

Thanks

I recently started getting the same thing. And that is the reason why I bought GTA4 on steam for 6.25 (along with the Stories from Liberty City).

Steam version works fine and dandy. GTA4 retail is now just shelved.

Ok, so it's not just me.

The trouble is I want the retail version working so I can mess around with car mods and stuff. Is it safe to mod the Steam version? It's just I added a blood mod to the Steam version and eventually it stopped working. I verified integrity of game cache and it said 3 files were missing/incorrect (the modded files), so I ended up having to reinstall it (fortunately I'd backed the Steam version up).

Any ideas?

Honestly no idea mate. I said to myself that I would probably do a full reformat/reinstall sometime over the next couple of months to cure the problem :)

For now I am happy to use the Steam GTA4. But I understand that does not solve your problem.

You tried the mods with the Steam version? Which mods are you using? (ENB?)

I just wanted to use some car mods, blood mods, and weapon mods, oh and also a mod which increase traffic and pedestrian numbers.

I tried the blood mod, which worked once, and then messed up my Steam install and meant I couldn't play it again, so I had to reinstall.

hmm reading this thread has put me off buying gta on steam, thought it would all be well integrated rather than the sloppy retail version. wanted to put lifelike mods in like the ped mod and blood mod.
