It's not advisable, but I usually run my 205's without them because the covers rattle so badly. The worst idea is to run with just the top section removed (some cambelt covers are multi-section) because then it's very easy for a stone to wedge between belt and cover - not good!

but it isnt really a good idea. especially as lopez said. in 2 parts makes a cup for stuff to get stuck in.
Ah so it's not a completely idiotic thing to do but is a little risky?
The reason I ask is that it's a bit broken and I want the car this evening. This amateur mechanics stuff is harder than it looks! Give me a nice Linux box any day.
