Running without cambelt cover?

It's not advisable, but I usually run my 205's without them because the covers rattle so badly. The worst idea is to run with just the top section removed (some cambelt covers are multi-section) because then it's very easy for a stone to wedge between belt and cover - not good!

used to run my golf without one, whilst I waited for a new one to arrive.
but it isnt really a good idea. especially as lopez said. in 2 parts makes a cup for stuff to get stuck in.

Ah so it's not a completely idiotic thing to do but is a little risky? :)

The reason I ask is that it's a bit broken and I want the car this evening. This amateur mechanics stuff is harder than it looks! Give me a nice Linux box any day.

Cambelt cover is one part so no issues there. Thanks guys :).

Yea, you can run with it off - just risk danger of entanglement or damage from road debris thrown up.

Also, because of the grit/dirt and moisture that the belt will be exposed to, it's lifespan will be shortened somewhat :)

Ive seen people do it regularly, but these are the same people who run TBs without an air filter.

Theres more risk.

If the alternator belt snapped then it could very easily mess with the cambelt.
