It is sad that we are in this situation. The loss of life in the iraq war, then afghanistan. And for what? Back to square one.

I remember a couple of months ago when Russia started it's bombing campaign, they claimed that America had only "pretended" to bomb ISIS, and the Russian campaign would be much more effective..

It just makes me despair - we learnt the hard way that you can't just blanket bomb everything 24/7 and walk away with a win, fighting Islamic militants is a nasty, long winded horrid affair that goes on and on seemingly forever - then it looks like you've won, and an entirely new outfit appears that was twice as bad as everything that came before it,

But no - Russia appears claiming it's going to own everyone, and now less than a couple of months later 224 of it's citizens appear to have been bombed out of the Sky by ISIS, I just hope Russia calms down a bit and has a good long deep think about what it's getting into.

you can blanket bomb them and win - they are using the wrong kind of bombs for it to work
 
I would doubt Russia would be eager to make a deployment as the Americans have. I would expect the Russians to attach small surgical strikes rather than an invasion force.

Hopefully Putin will be as wise as I expect him to be

hmmm and someone has been editing the battle of grozny wiki page and changing the passages about the use of chemical weapons by Russia on a large scale as well

no, you really cannot win by just blanket bombing, ISIS don't operate on an old fashioned conventional battlefield, where 100% of the people there are the enemy, carpet bombing tactics would cause more problems than they'd solve.

As we've learnt over and over again, you can kill the majority of them using weapons, but then more just spring up later and do it all again, a bit like Cancer really - ISIS is a perfect example of this.

not really - use the right kind of bomb and nothing will be left to fight back - carpet bomb them with nukes and its game over
