RWD Saloon/Coupe wanted

I guess any half decent bmw specialist would know what it was at even the mention of that then if you got those symptoms.

Well yes and no. They'd know that it could relate to a tearing subframe, but it could also just as likely be subframe or diff bushes, or even a prop-shaft donut.

It's only really the early e36's early e46's (god knows how they managed to fix the problem on the facelift e36 and then forget how to stop it happening for the e46 launch ), and the early z3 (all 6-pots, never really 4-pots) that get the problem though.

Looking for a RWD Coupe/Saloon for £1500 or under, what could i expect to get for that sort of money or what would be recommended.

Er, off hand I can only think of the Toyota Supra MKiii, very decent ones can be had for that price and ok ones for much less, 232bhp 3.0 single turbo 6 pot or 200bhp for the N/A, was their flagship car at the time so comes quite tricked out for the time.

That's all he'll get with pretty much any car, especially a fun RWD coupe/saloon.

I don't know about that - I've bought loads of RWD things for under £1,500 and never had any major issues with any of them. In fact, thinking about it, I rarely had any issues with them at all.......Just a case of buying sensibly.

E36 318iS would be a great choice too....

What are you looking for OP? A daily runner? Something just for kicks? Got any space to work on it or any mechanical knowledge?

I'd not say the iS is a good choice at all. It's almost impossible to find a decent condition (as in won't need spannering) e36 for £1500 these days. Yes you seem to find the gems within the dross, but nobody else seems able to manage that. Don't forget, you can wield a spanner, as yet, we don't know if the OP can.

Really? When I had mine up for sale at £750 it had very little interest and that's a pretty good one, ie full history, low miles and owners, with very little rust, though it's a crap colour. One of my friends has partially bought/borrowed it off me now though I'm tempted to get it back as it should be reasonable fun for the winter.

For a sub £1500 rwd coupe that's fairly quick I'd be looking for a Soarer, and if quickness isn't an issue than a E36 318is. 200sx's are rotten money pits at this price.

I still have the 330Ci and its going just fine, but looking for something for daily use as the 330Ci around town in this weather drinks like its going out of fashion. Plus the cold weather wont do the roof any favours so its covered most of the time.

Drinks like its going out of fashion? You would actually cry if you ever got something which really does drink like that.

Just keep the 330Ci, there is no way that anything plausible will save enough fuel to anything like offset the additional costs of running another car. The 330Ci's selling point is that its an allrounder, its brilliant as that, it is a pointless weekend only car.

Seriously, this is a ridiculous idea. Lets go through why.

A 330Ci does not really 'drink like its going out of fashion' around town. Sure it does 20mpg but then what exactly do you think is going to do significantly more for 1500 quid whilst being an RWD Coupe?

How does 'nothing' sound.

So, you are going to spend £1500 to buy a new car.

£1500.

You are then going to spend what, £700+ to insure it with no NCB as it's being used on your 330Ci.

£2200.

You then need to tax it. It's going to be older than 01, and have a bigger engine than 1549cc. So thats what, £190?

£2390.

Then it's going to break. Probably quite a lot given the sort of stuff you want. Lets say you are lucky and it only costs you 500 quid over a year in extra running costs.

£2890.

Congratulations! We are now up to a total spend of almost £3k to avoid driving...

... a BMW 3 Series during the winter.

It's a 330Ci Cab, it isn't a Lotus Elise or a Caterham 7.

This new plan is going to cost you an absolute fortune, an absolute fortune which, judging from the posts you've made in GD about how you've only got a couple of hundred quid at the end of the month spare, you can ill afford.

Buying a new car only makes sense if you sell the 330Ci.

Buying an ancient RWD Coupe because your 330Ci uses fuel around town is a candidate for most daft idea of November.

If you cant really afford to run the 330Ci the best thing to do is to sell it and buy something thats cheaper to run. Not to take on even more risk.
