Ryanair - Got to love 'em

I have paid much more than needed to avoid ryan air...

Just couldn't do it, not from the stories I have been told :(

They're fine so long as you approach them as sales people determined to add extra fluff you most likely don't need (though I believe they were told off for opt in products pre-ticked when booking). You also need to stick to their letter of the law.

I know people who have had problems with their automated check in systems and the whole online check in thing. They tend to be technophobes or people who can't read instructions :p

Luggage can also be a problem as they are really strict on the one item of carry on luggage (laptop bag counts as 1 item, as do handbags). I've also seen swarms of Ryanair staff descend on boarders checking every bag as if they're on commission.

That's because they are on commission with targets. The handlers stop people at the gate with a scam at Luton that I'm amazed hasn't made the papers.

The gauge that you check you hand luggage in is slightly larger than the one at the gate. The handling agent has the exact correct sized one at the gate and they check it before you board. They have targets to meet to capture people and charge them.

This is all happening because the low cost model is dead. No one can afford to do that anymore, fuel is way to high. So the cost to make £5 per seat has to be made in other areas.

Allocated seating will be the next scam, they will intentionally seat you away from others in your party to make sure next time you paid to be seated together. Another way to cream money from you without putting the headline figure up.

What about people that take their babies on business class?

Never seen any, though I suppose first class is an option in such an eventuality. Usually it's the obnoxious family with children taking babies on planes, they can't afford business class thankfully and so are confined to steerage.

not quite the same but my brother and his gf regularly take their kid in business class on long haul flights (now 5 but since 3 yr old) he says they get dirty looks but he ensures she is impeccably behaved

he has told her not to go behind the curtain though as you catch diseases :p he also claims to have taught her, when walking through economy, to business to greet passengers with "good morning peasants" :p
