Ryzen 1700 vs 1500x/1600

I am on a serious budget this year to get the PC up and running - I have gone for the Tiachi X370, 16gb of 2800Mhz Gskill and a 1TB SSD as the parts I expect to last a while and lower core count Ryzen and a 6gb 1060 on the graphics side. For what I am doing the 6 core setup is going to be awesome for at least 2 years, but even the 4 core 8 thread 1500 would probably be fine so the goal is to upgrade the graphics next year and the CPU the year after when I will be able to go for a refined 8 core chip and still have a really decent board.

For the next year I am going to be gaming on a TV at 1080p so the 1060 is perfect for my current needs. Next year should bring a 4k monitor and a graphics card to run it and then a stronger CPU the year after that on the Ryzen+ or ++ process and get a fast 8 core setup to run me into the future.

3 months ago an i7 7700k with 4 cores and 8 threads was overkill for most people. As a match to a 1060 I think the 1500 is amazing value and even the 1600 could be overkill.

If you shop around you can get a 1600 for just £25 more than the 1500x which is an absolute no brainer.
2 extra cores and 4 extra threads for £25!
Games are starting to saturate 8 threads now and if you want a CPU to be lasting for 2 years you really shouldn't be looking at a quad core.

no point in spending the extra on the 1700, the 1600 is more than enough now and for some time :)

Damn. Good going. That 1080 is going to fly. Same CPU I have and difference in games from my x58 setup was epic :)

Oh, the 1080 is going in my HTPC which has an i5 4690K(Abit of an over kill I know lol). I be saving the Ryzen computer for then the 1070 arrives in a few weeks.

Get a 1700 and oc, it'll boss what you throw at it so you prolly won't have to upgrade for a while, same with me being on a 5820k, it'd be madness to look at x299 :-D

I too went for the 1700 and it's amazing. Combined it with the X370 Taichi from ASRock and 3000Mhz RAM from Corsair. My reasoning was with a relatively simple overclock you're set for at least a few years with no need to upgrade.

No point in getting the quadcore now. Developers will be looking to the future to use more cores. Get the hexcore to give yourself some breathing room.
