Ryzen 1700x upgrade - real life benefit?

Ah, useful to know. Ok tried that to no avail (again which numpty puts the CMOS battery under the GPU!)

Ok taken off the CPU cooler, interestingly the CPU came off with it - should the little lever not hold it in place normally?! Not sure what it's for if it doesn't do that! Wasn't ripping it off, just lifted it gently...?

Anyway, time to reinstall.....
Check for bent pins on cpu

Right, got it working eventually

- needed new bios firmware
- also needed to disable the inanely stupid fastboot which has no option to disable by design once you enable
- also needed to CMOS reset

Then a few restarts and sorted.

But CPU coolers need to die and start again....!
No way to fit the fan without then taking the GPU out, ridiculous mounting screws that need a long nosed screwdriver to use, flimsy wire fan holders, wobbly mounts that are normal.... what a mess!

Rant over!

Are you sure? Feel free to continue as I am sure there are many people who'd agree with your feelings. :p

Was it the BIOS I linked in post #7 of this thread, or a different/newer one you needed?

Some feedback on temps and performance on the board you have would be good to share for others.

It is ridiculous - it's like first year engineering standards, all the stuff they basically say to not do...!

Bios 52h had the 5900 series working, I installed 52i as it was the most recent I could see.

Think it was also partly this silly fastboot thing that turns off the bios, but gigabyte forgot to actually put a sensible way to turn it off until later MBs it appears.... Dafties!
