Check for bent pins on cpuAh, useful to know. Ok tried that to no avail (again which numpty puts the CMOS battery under the GPU!)
Ok taken off the CPU cooler, interestingly the CPU came off with it - should the little lever not hold it in place normally?! Not sure what it's for if it doesn't do that! Wasn't ripping it off, just lifted it gently...?
Anyway, time to reinstall.....
Ah right fine, just checking nothing odd I've done! The chip coming off with the heatsink is a common AM4 thing unfortunately. It's best to run your machine at a high load for a while to bring temps up before lifting the heatsink.
All pristine!Check for bent pins on cpu
get some pics up, would be good to see how its all fitting together.Right, got it working eventually
- needed new bios firmware
- also needed to disable the inanely stupid fastboot which has no option to disable by design once you enable
- also needed to CMOS reset
Then a few restarts and sorted.
But CPU coolers need to die and start again....!
No way to fit the fan without then taking the GPU out, ridiculous mounting screws that need a long nosed screwdriver to use, flimsy wire fan holders, wobbly mounts that are normal.... what a mess!
Rant over!

Good shout! Will do some this weekend if I get a tick!get some pics up, would be good to see how its all fitting together.
It is ridiculous - it's like first year engineering standards, all the stuff they basically say to not do...!Are you sure? Feel free to continue as I am sure there are many people who'd agree with your feelings.
Bios 52h had the 5900 series working, I installed 52i as it was the most recent I could see.Was it the BIOS I linked in post #7 of this thread, or a different/newer one you needed?
Some feedback on temps and performance on the board you have would be good to share for others.
That said, it's running noticeably slicker now - even just opening windows, applications etc is much quicker, so definitely worth it!
Will test it in anger this weekend!!
