ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x

B350 Strix also gets the Intel LAN, which is a nice step up from the Realtek LAN most B350 boards use, it's a pretty neat board feature wise. My only qualms would be the VRM, which albeit should be good enough to get an R7 chip to 4Ghz, might not be for future Ryzen iterations, but then again the X370 boards with better VRMs are also somewhat more expensive.

At 2933, sure. Try to hit 3200mhz + and tell me there are no issues.
Silicon lottery.
How many AM4 boards have you got?

6 in total from two firms. Will be building more soon.

Gavin let's stop beating around the bush. You hate AMD and a lot of what you post is rubbish or just for the sake of arguing.

i always been a firm believer in all round stability, thats why i wanna make sure that my board, cpu, ram, cooler etc our all working as one.
last thing i want is knowing ive spent 700-800 on parts and within no time boom

Shouldn't have issues then, Asus has been releasing a lot of BIOS updates and their B350/X370 platforms are pretty mature nowadays. I've only really encountered issues when I started overclocking, but if you do proper stress testing you'll find some good stable overclocked settings after some trial and error :D

well after watching that asus video 32mins long im hoping that i can do it comfortably, if not im sure a few on here will be willing to help

ive also checked out a few video's on the 1600 with 16gb 3200mhz and running the 6gb 1060 and the graphics and playability seem to hold up really well, in some cases id say better than ps4

in all fairness im hoping the rig im building is going last me next few years

I'm not sure on the prices and when I bought the cost was pretty high but the ASRock Z370 professional is a great board and comes with 5Gb/s Tbase networking and actually performs closer to 10Gb/s These have been solid boards and I'd have no problems building a full on workstation or critical server around one.

Please, I've x2 1700s with the best board available and the fastest ram available and any higher than 3200 was too much for it to be able to boot 100% of the time despite being solidly stable.
I also have a 1300x on a msi tomahawk board. I have a 7970 running with that.
I've got a laptop with an A10 APU in it.

That's a lot of products from a company I hate:)

What I do hate is people singing AMDs praises for releasing a product that struggles to beat haswell in gaming and has a **** poor memory controller.
I hate that people fail to recognise that this platform still has issues.
Even more some of this same stuff comes from people that don't even own one themselves and have no idea of any of the quirks that present themselves when overclocking.
Take a look in the ryzen owners thread, I and others have experiences bios updates that breaks previously stable overclocks. Cold boot issues are still a thing, even this long after launch.

So no I don't hate AMD, I hate misinformed people spreading BS and pretend that ryzen is faultless.

to be honest gavin, like i said before i respect people opinions and I know that some cpu's mobo's, ram etc will work better with one set up than another and thats why if tried to gather as much info as i could on my build from people.

the only thing i didnt get an answer on was the coolmaster masterliquid 240 lite cooler working with the ryzen so i took a gamble

You did the right thing by asking but you'll get opinions from people that dont even have one yet go recommending it based on a few graphs from a youtuber.
That cooler will be fine, the 1700 under a corsair h100i v2 never went above 75c using the silent profile when overclocked to 3.8ghz.

You will be fine, just dont go expecting too high of an overclock and prepare for hit and miss performance in older games.

Make sure you order this with your AIO Marco, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cool...nd-socket-tf4-mounting-bracket-hs-07k-cm.html as im not 100% sure it will be shipped in the box buddy.

It's going to be much better than any console. Destiny 2 for example is locked at 30fps on consoles and I was getting 90fps at 1080p with the R7 1700 and my old overclocked GTX 970 (with DOF turned down a notch).
The 8Pack kits seem to be pretty hassle free in getting 3200Mhz, so you probably won't encounter too many issues there.

Cooler Master have it as AM4 compatible on their website, should be compatible out of the box.

I have an R7 1700 sat at 3.9GHz, 1.33v cooled by a Corsair H100i v2. This is on the ASUS ROG STRIX X370-F motherboard. The RAM is G. Skill Trident Z. I have 2 x8 GB at 3200MHz.

Overclocking the processor was simple. I just kept adding frequency and tweaking voltage until I had it stable for an hour or 2 in stress tests. I could probably squeeze a bit more out of it.

The RAM was perculiar. I had all kind of niggles but now it is running at it's rated speed after getting the BIOS up to date. It seems the online BIOS update built into the board didn't get the most current version and I was only getting 2933. Now it's fine and has been stable like that for a while.

My friend bought the ROG STRIX B350 and the R5 1600. He is using the stock cooler and the same G Skill Trident Z RAM as me. He's Dutch so I had to chat via Discord but we got the CPU overclocked no problem. Getting his RAM to go anything past default speed is impossible. Can't even get it to post at 2600, it's 2133 or nothing.

I'm at a loss over what to do. We tried setting the D.O.C.P profile but the latest BIOS only gives one option for 3200MHz and that didn't work. We tried everything between 2133 and 3200 and nothing would work. At the moment it's just left as is because he's a bit overwhelmed with overclocking.

Getting more and more performance out of any CPU by using faster memory or overclocking it is not a problem, its a good thing. Back in my day tweaking your system to get more performance out of it was a good thing, why is that now a bad thing? i don't get it.

Strange considering both are Asus boards.

My Ryzen 1700 machine has been completely disconnected from power for a few days due to construction work in the house.

Booted first time to settings in my sig as it has before when completely disconnected from power, 3.7Ghz and 3466 c15.

Yeah it used to take me weeks and sometimes months to fine tune everything.
