At that price the 5600X doesn't seem very competitive. Particularly vs. something like a 10600k @5ghz+ as the IPC gains would disappear due to lower clock speeds. You get an iGPU in the 10600k also ofcourse.

Yeah and you need z490 for max mem speed and overclocking, you can fire the 5600X any cheap B550 and get max performance out the box with with mem and CPU overclocking, oh and PCI-E 4. 10600K is a bad buy come nov 5th.

It's a fair point tbh, but we don't actually know exact performance for 5600x as the keynote slides were showing 5900x.
Basically in two minds for an upgrade, all about what pricing changes happen between AMD/Intel until Nov 5th.

Its not twice as much though is it? As the 5600 x is not £400
You could for a long time buy a Ryzen 3600 for £140 - £150, which is about half what the 5600X is currently.

Recent shortages pushed prices up, and I also doubt anyone right now will be buying a 3600 for £200 after the AMD event and pending release.

There will be millions of 3600 floating about in MM as people upgrade...I myself would go 5600x unless you really don’t have the money.

Money isn't the issue, I upgrade every 5 years on average. So would ideally want something to last that time, I have a 2080 and probably won't upgrade that for a couple of years either.

I guess it's more about value for money and diminishing returns.

3700x is also a contender at that price point. So many options!

3600 (£200) v 5600x (£290) v 3700x (£277)

But all I do is game on the PC, so IPC is king, therefore the 5600x would be a better choice than the 3700x I guess

Now the question is should we wait for the xt versions? I may hold off until they decide whether to release XT versions. Problem with AMD is you're paying more for higher clock rates. I'd be satisfied with 8 cores 4.9ghz don't need 16cores for gaming... I guess I'll see how well the chips overclock before deciding whether to wait or not. That and whether the cost is worth over getting a cheaper 9900k. I'd only be wasting the potential of a 16 core
