Nah I think these things just run toasty dude. I installed my 5900x yesterday and actually remounted it as it’s considerably hotter than my previous 3700x. I think that’s the nature of the beast though. That and the much higher 105w TDP. I’m using an h150i 360mm and I’m considering getting another 3 fans for the back of the radiator to see if I can drop temperatures even by a few degrees.

what temp? I've got a 3950x on a 360mm AIo and it only hits 60c out of the box, hoping the 5950x isn't way hotter

My 5900X hits 77-80 Celsius under full load across all 12 cores (cpu-z stress test for 5-10 minutes). I'm using a Noctua U12A with MX-4 paste on a Gigabyte x570 I Aorus WiFi, in a mostly assembled Bitfenix Prodigy case with no airflow. I've also noticed buzzing from the motherboard during this test as well as ~118% total power draw, presumably because the motherboard's power circuitry is doing a lot of work.

I've bought a new case as I can't fit the ridonkulous PSU into the Prodigy, so I'll report back when I've got a completed, enclosed system.

stock feeds higher voltage and lower amps.

all core OC feeds lower voltage but higher amps.

It depends what you set for the all core clock though. The MB isn't really feeding the amps, more amps are drawn by the CPU because it's running higher all core clocks but if you've lowered the voltage then your getting better performance per clock and therefore less heat per performance, if that makes sense. If you lower the voltage and keep the clocks the same then it will draw less current and produce less heat.

I'm not sure if this applies to the 12 and 16 core chips as they don't overclock as high as the max boost but I've seen a few reviews on the 6 and 8 core where a 4.7ghz all core OC was cooler and using less power than stock.

Everyone is taking about temps here. What are the power draws on CPU package?

these zen3 meant to have the same TDP or power consumption than zen2 and offer more performances.

zen2 wasn’t running this hot under AIO why is the zen3 doing it now?

Yeah I've seen this also. I think it's because they managed to reduced voltage down below 1.275V so even though it has higher all core clocks it's drawing less current overall and using less power.

I’ve noticed the buzzing from the board as well from my 5900x whilst using a Gigabyte x570 aorus master.

It could be a BIOS issue with the temps. But they do seem to be running toasty in comparison to the previous gen.

I only have PBO enabled haven’t set anything else. RAM is at 3800mhz cl16 and 1900mhz infinity

Because performance per watt is way better with Zen3 but they're also pushing them harder with higher frequencies so it cancels out. Also silicon lottery plays a huge part in how hot the chip will run, most people are reporting similar temps to Zen2 as far as I can tell looking at all the reviews.

That’s my point, it should be the same temps.

so why are people hitting 80c under water. That shouldn’t happen unless the CPU is drawing 300w which I think only the 5950 capable off if you do silly all core overclocks like the one debauer did with LN2.

Yeah it feels like the power envelope is too high for a given load. Had these results from manual testing yesterday
Sythe Fuma 2 in open air

Mhz - V - T - Cine score

Default
4505 - 1.335 - 80 - 5788

Manual
4700 - 1.25 - 76 - 6192
4750 - 1.25 - - error
4750 - 1.2625 - - error
4750 - 1.275 - - error
4750 - 1.2875 - 81 - 6259
4775 - 1.2875 - - error
4775 - 1.3 - - error

Stopped as temps getting a bit high

There's meant to be a new AGESA coming soon which allows undervolting with their auto OC/PBO stuff working

Hardware unboxed who saw the 5950X for example running on average 6-7C cooler than the 3950X, 5900X was 8C cooler on average, the 5600X was 9C cooler, and the 5800X was 3C hotter. It all depends on silicon in my opinion in my opinion.

When you say manual is that a manual voltage only or a manual all-core OC?
