Sabertooth x79 Advice

Well since i'm asking for advice on GFX and SSDs i might aswell ask about this too.

I want a Rampage extreme but the EATX bad boy won't go into my antec 900 and i've edited this case and have developed an unhealthy relationship with it. i want to spend my life with it.

The board that fits, has the features i want and purportedly has the reliability i need is the Asus x79 Sabertooth.

Supposedly a reasonable clocker, has 8 ram slots, doesn't look too awful, isn't made by asrock and has had fewer bad reviews than the Gigabyte board listed next to it.

I've already made damn sure that the noctua will sit on it with room for ram (there were complaints!) and i've read every review i can find; though some of which do seem sponsored

What say you guys?
Is it a good enough board? if not, what is?

my priorities:
1. form factor (must be atx; not eatx).
2. reliability.
3. ram slots (needs 8).
4 Overclocking.

thanks,
chris.

Outside of the high end boards the next best thing would be either the sabertooth or P9X79 IMO.

You won't be disappointed with the sabertooth should you choose it.

that's all i needed lad, thanks muchly.

edit: the p9x79 was the other option, well, one of the varients anyway, but there were issues regarding mosfets that i couldn't reconcile against the cost.

I have the X79 Sabertooth and so glad too.

It is reliable and the marketing is not all BS. Decent caps and MOSFETs are used.
Memory tuning is fantastic
Overclocks like a dream
BIOS settings in general almost as good as the RIVE.
VRM/MOSFET cooling is great on this board.
Layout is great too, especially for SLi and for CPU heatsinks
Good looking motherboard as well if that's anything you care about, better than the blue cheap looking boards.
Great support and the ASUS software tuning is extremely handy.

Well worth the money IMO

i seen your post in the search i did (yeah i do that).

i'll grab one of these then - just out of interest, what you running it with? curious about ram/cpu/cooler setup. cheers

thanks lad.

you also swayed me toward that Samsung green, which i had looked upon as entirely basic.

I would like to add that although the Phenteks heatsink is an extremely (arguably the best) heatsink, it's also a pain to fit straight, so if you get it, have a clear mind and patience when fitting it.

Samsung Green is my favourite RAM. Not only is it tiny and almost nonexistent, it overclocks VERY well.
Don't be afraid to push the voltage on the stuff. SB-E can handle 1.65V all day long and so can this RAM. I run between 1.6v and 1.65v depending on my speeds at the time.

as far as coolers are concerned, there's not a great deal of choice available for socket 2011 at the moment, eventually it came down to either one of the all-in-one liquid kits (like the intel one for example) or the noctua, in the end i went for the noctua cos it beat both the liquid kits in a coupla reviews and at this stage i still had the RipjawZ Reds in my basket, which i had researched and found would fit on that board underneath the noctua.

i will have a look at this other one though, i don't mind fiddly so much cos when it's done it's done.

edit: doesn't seem to be on ocuk from what i can see, so i'll get the noctua. if i get it all in one place i can roll up my sleeves as soon as my box of tricks arrives, i don't like waiting lol

i have the noctua with the gskill ram (but with an asrock x79-extreme9) and it all fits. the cpu and mobo ar 37'c and 35'c as i'm typing this reply so good cooling too.
