Just a very quick question, as per the title. Is it safe to store old computers and parts up in the loft??? I ahve a couple of old PCs, which I haven't been able to get working, and which are cluttering up my flat, they are basically just storage for several cards, sound cards, graphics cards etc etc at the moment. WOuld it be ok to store them up in the loft, and do I need to do anything to help protect them from the cold etc???

hmmm ive kept a fair few parts in the loft before, just normally in a anti-static bag and then in a box or something, never noticed any problems some parts have been taken out the loft and used before with no issues :) cant see it been any difference to parts kept in a warehouse.

Should be fine, though obviously you might want to store them in cardboard boxes etc rather than letting them get covered in dust.

If the loft is not totally insulated (most are not), rising heat from your flat will likely prevent it from getting too cold.

That's good to hear. Seeing as neither comp is currently workingI shall bung them up there and ignore them for the time being. Be nice to have them out of the way!!!

Shame cos one of the comps, ok it was only a P3 866mhz but it was perfect for my media computer till it just decided not to work after I moved, having suffered no shocks or bumps or anything :o( Ho hum...

Yeah it will be fine. I currently have my machine in my loft. It has been up there since september with no problems at all.

Not looking forward to the summer though, its gonna be hot up there.

i usually put old puter stuff in the loft then 6 months later clear the loft and chuck everthing away i think i should just chuck all my old junk got like 8 cd-roms and loads of old pII and older boards :(

Just wrap the stuff up very well, best in sealed plastic bags...
