I wonder if retailers aernt offering such good deals on the basis that people will be buying more anyway before the VAT increases.

Its the chinese students, they are pretty rich, was the same in Newcastle they used to shop constantly then goto the casino.

The (foreign) chinese students are mostly rich. The average cost of fees per year in the UK for a student outside the EU is around £20k (including accommodation, not food). Can you imagine putting aside £20k of your salary for your kid to study every year? The parents need to be on a LOT of money to afford that.

You see it in Birmingham too, eating in Yo! Sushi, £50 bill and don't blink an eyelid.
