Sallery question - IT tech

can you define what you mean by a Tech ? is it what most people ( Fox excluded ;) ) would term a hardware engineer ?

if so then base salary amd total salary are very different as on call / shifts / overtime / car allowances all come in

the range I see ( server level ) goes from £20k basic ( £35k all in ) to £40k basic ( £70k ) all in

My first it job in the IT industry straight out of uni was £13.5k, low I know and it was a 50 mile a day commute, but I stuck by it, was about 3 1/2 years and left on £16.2k but that was the bottom, desktop support, but in that time I worked my way up and prooved myself and become a "specialist" in VoIP, I was the VoIP guy and heading towards VoIP and Networking sector.

I landed another job (Networking Security, Broadband and Internet services!!) started off on £18k, been here two years now and im on the overtime (on call rota) (2 weeks per month @ which equates to £4.8k per annum) plus I have a payrise due in the next month or two, already been discussed.

Unfortunatly for starters unless your very lucky, your average starting salary will be between £13k-£16k depending on where you are, and it will most likely be desktop support, but thats where you get experience, then decide what direction you want to go in :)

I disagree with this, if you are a grad in the South East on a graduate scheme, the starting salary is £26-28k.

Like I said, if your lucky and depending on where you are, id say a good % wont start on £26-28k though, thats abit optimistic. South East and London area is probably the most highest paid area's
