Samaritans founder dies aged 95

The Prince of Wales has led tributes to Dr Chad Varah, the founder of the Samaritans, who has died aged 95.

Dr Varah passed away in hospital in Basingstoke, Hants, a spokesman for the charity confirmed.

He launched the Samaritan's from the crypt of St Luke's Church, in the city of London, in 1953.

Don't normally post news articles but looking at this one I just thought if there was something you would want to be remembered for, and have had as your life's work this has got to rank pretty highly as a very noble thing to have achieved...

Not sure how called upon the Samaritans are nowadays, but over fifty years of service I'm sure they helped a lot of people...

No need for the sad face, he's got a good many years out of life and has done an amazing thing with it. :)

It's always sad when someone dies no matter how old they are or how much they have done.

And I was waiting for someone to say that.

They get called on a hell of a lot still, although the Sams of Chad's dreams is far removed from the service of today.

Still, a great shame. RIP.
