Hey All,

I received my Samsung LE32N73BD yesterday, from a well known online store (they also have high-street stores). To my horror, when I turned it on ... there was a single dead pixel, pretty much in the middle of the screen.

Anyone got any suggestion as to what I should do with it?

I was thinking on taking it into a high-street branch and asking for a refund?

However I rang them about it last night, and they reckons you need at least 5 dead pixels before they will touch it. Should I tell the people in the store I want a refund for a different reason? i.e. I just don't like it?

Any help would be great. :)

Cheers, Munkey

hmmm, unlucky firstly, i have the same telly and i love it. I'm sure that dead pixel count also has a bearing on position on the screen too, i.e, the more central it is the higher count it is, i can't find a source for that though. If you bought it from where i thinkyou did then take out their insurance policy, it's £6.99/month i think and covers accidental damage ;)

How much did you pay btw? was it £709 oor £949? I got mine for £709 on a price match.

Yea, its a really nice tv, just a bit annoying, been waiting for 2 weeks for it n' all :(

I got it from the place your thinking, I got it for the same price (bargain, i thought)

I was actually thinking about the insurance policy.

What do you think my chances are of getting a refund tho? Seeing as its been out of the box, and used?

cheers

Just box it back up and take it back under distance trading regs. You dont have to tell them it was used I just told them I didnt like the look of it on my stand.

But on a 32 inch tv one pixel would not bother me. Its not likely you will be sitting close enough to notice it unlike a pc monitor??

Yea it might, but it might have none, plus, if it has some, surely I could just send that one back too? until I get one that doesnt have any?

One dead is pretty good. All of the LCD TV's/monitors/laptop have always had one, if not more dead pixels.

If every one had to be perfect, they would cost 5k+, because of all the screens they would have to scrap due to defects.

Yield on TFT screens pretty low if you only accept 100% perfect screens.

Just one question, is it a stuck 'on' pixel, or a stuck off. If its stuck on I'd be tempted to get it swapped out, because bright dots stuck on during a dark scene can be quite obvious, while stuck off pixels are much harder to spot in 'normal' use.

I suspect the 'allowance' for dead pixels is higher on a TV than a Monitor, and even monitors are 'permitted' to have dead pixels, although a few (monitor) brands do guarantee perfection (probably sell their defect panels to other cheaper brands hehe)

If your 'brave' you could try to massage the pixel using a cotton wool bud. Just gently rub the pixel in a tiny circular motion, need to press just hard enough that you can see the colours change with the pressure. It works 'occasionally' but I've yet to bring a pixel back on any screen I've owned.

Well, i presume its stuck on, but I can only see it on blue and green colours, not black or white screen, it sort of a really pale blue colour, does that mean its only a stuck pixel, and not a dead one?

EDIT, how do you actually tell the difference, between dead and stuck pixels?

I think dead ones are black all the time and a stuck one is a certain colour. I have a stuck one on the top of my Samsung LE26R74BDX and it's always red. Never notice much though.
