Copied and pasted this from my post on a mobile phone site, but since the OC forums are so good, I thought I'd ask here too :D

Hi, the contract is about to end on my Samsung D500, and I've been looking at the following 3 replacements: Samsung D600; Samsung E900; and the Sony Ericsson w810i. However, while making this post, I have almost eliminated the D600 from selection, as the e900 is cheaper and seems to have a better spec. If anyone can tell me otherwise, please do so.

I really liked my D500, the only thing I would have preferred was better video capturing capability, and more memory.

I can get each phone on the same O2 250 contract:

  • 18month contract
  • 250 anytime x-network minutes/month (+ double minutes for 1st 6 months)
  • 100 txts/month (+ double txts for 1st 6 months
  • £35/month

However, I will receive cashback on each deal:
E900 - £280 cashback - works out at £19.44/month overall
w810i - £245 cashback - works out at £21.39/month overall
(These good deals for what I'd be getting?)

Obviously this puts the E900 into an early lead, saving me £35. I'm assuming that the E900 has a similar menu system/shortcuts to the D500 - so that's another pluspoint. I'm not familiar with Sony Ericsson menu systems, but I loved the system on my D500. The E900 also seems to have a better display - bigger and more colour depth.

However, the Samsung only has 80Mb internal memory, whereas the w810i has a huge 512mb; this is a big plus for me. (EDIT: It seems I'm a bit confused about this, I was having a look on a different site but it said the internal memory on the phone was only 20mb - does this mean a 512mb memory card would have to be purchased separately? EDIT2: Nevermind, the site says it comes supplied with a 512mb memory stick PRO) I also slightly prefer the design of the w810i, and it has better battery life.

At this point, the 2 phones seem to be around even in my mind, so the deciding factor will probably be the camera/video capabilities. Clarity of video would be the main thing, since they both have the same 2megapixel camera. So which phone is better in the camera/video department?

Also, have a question about my contract. My current one, which is just coming to an end, I got with O2 via dialaphone a year ago. Can I just cancel this current contract with O2, and take up one of the above with Carphone Warehouse?

Sorry for the huge post, I wanted to be as detailed as possible, I don't make these decisions lightly :D Any help would be great, thanks. :)

I just got the w810i and I am very happy, my dad got the E900 and I dont like it, keep brushing the wrong keys and the response of them seemed a bit slow. It might be something to get used to, but I'm very happy with the W810i. Comes with a 512 memory stick. I got it on orange for £25 a month with 500 mins 500 texts, but that was a special please dont leave us deal (I was never leaving :D )

Yeah I've read about a couple of people accidentally brushing keys on the e900.

Also, I've just discovered I can get a 1Gb memory card for the E900 for less than £25, so that negates the memory advantage of the w810i.

In regards to the O2 250 tariff, the 'double minutes and texts for the first 6 months' promotion apply to the 12 month contract, and not the 18 month one as you stated.
According to the o2 website, you get double minutes and texts for life if you sign up for 18 months...

Of course I many be wrong and it could just be a special carphonewarehouse
negotiated thing, but its maybe worth considering if it isn't....

The main problem I have with the E900 is that, like others here, I often push the wrong buttons (having moved from using a SE K750i) - the cancel/hangup in particular cuasing much grieviance - but im slowly getting used to it... :)

Camera/Video - Ain't great, but then that isn't why I bought it for :)

That's O2 Online, not O2 highstreet which is double for 3 months on a 12 monther and double for 6 months on a 18 monther.

Yeah it's a special carphonewarehouse thing, here's a quick pic I made when comparing :D

But obviously I don't get the cashback if I go straight through O2.

I've seen that the E900 captures video at double the resolution of the w810i, so it looks like I'll probably be going for the E900. And hopefully I can sell my D500 to my mate :)

Thanks guys.
