Samsung F1 1TB

Because I live in NI, I am not eligable for the "Free" delivery, and even with paying for it, mine won't arrive until tomorrow....:)

Got them home & chucked two in in 2disk raid0 to start with. Ran out of ports on my raid card, so will copy the data to that, then unplug the old raid5 setup, and make the new one raid5 over 4 disks.

Here's a benchmark against my existing setup;
4x 7200.10 AAE firmware. 1x 7200.10 AAK firmware. 1x 7200.11, 6 disk raid5. Capped at 2tb though, due to MBR formatting... yup, learned that one the hard way :s.

Mine arrived today, although I have to go and pick it up. Said they tried to deliver and carded me - didn't hear/see any sign of either :rolleyes:

First bad experience I've had with CityLink, oh well.

Installed mine without a hitch, think I'm gonna do a complete cable overhaul in my case if my extra SATA cables arrive tomorrow.

My benchmark (XP32):

Looks good, just benching mine, it arrived this morning.

I've tested and formatted it in Vista. Spotted that after a format it had 118Mb's of used space, I know that's nothing on a 931Gb drive, but anyone know what is using that space?

Has anyone tried running these on much older stuff?
In the market for a couple for the server, at the minute its a Nforce3/ SIL3112 chipset card, and I'm slightly concerned that it won't like them.

Cheers

That controller only supports SATA150 so you could have problems with the Samsungs, they need a software tool to set the interface speed. Problem is of course you can only use said tool on a machine which recognises the drive, ie one which supports SATA300.

This drive is really playing up, it doesn't appear in windows vista install screen, keeps forgetting its formatted.

Might have to go back.

Is it just me or are the last two screens a little high when it comes to access times? I'm getting around 13.5ms.

You tried running Samsungs dos testing programme?

hmm yeah I was wondering about my access times as well, test all show around 13/14, I am getting 17/18. Strange.
