Samsung F1 1TB

Is there a definitive answer on whether or not nVidia chipsets have problems with this drive then?

One of my HDDs has just died I'm thinking of picking on of these up tomorrow to replace it, only potential problem is I'm running on a 680i chipset.
I can't give a definitive answer but i've got no problems with the hard drive on my nvidia chipset (590i)

anyone seen any reviews of the 500gb samsung f1? they can be had for £45 which is about the same price as the 320gb version so if it performs like the other drives i'll probably buy 1 or 2 for raid0. wanna know how much difference the 8mb cache will make.

thanks.

oh yeah, the competitor wrote 8mb, they have now fixed that. the HD501IJ has 8mb, the HD502IJ has 16mb. There is a 640gb version on samsung's website too: HD642JJ (16mb).

I think they are 320gb platters, they have disable some of the harddrive so that it makes a mainstream 500gb size, but will still be nice and fast, possibly faster than normal 320gb platters as i assume they will disable the outer parts of the platter.

Did you find out the answer to this one?

In device manager you have to make sure it's using the driver included with Matrix Storage manager otherwise it wont report anything using the program.

The driver included with Matrix is actually quite old. I will have to do some benchies to see which is faster - the latest INF or Matrix.

I cannot tell if SATA-II or NCQ is enabled using the INF driver. It is using Matrix driver.

These are really quiet drives, now I've stripped out my 3 7200.10s I can really notice the difference.

I hope your right about that. I will be doing the exact same thing, im ditching my 7200.10s in raid0 for one of these mothers.

Im trying to get my system ultra quiet now and HD's are the noisiest thing in my case so if this is really quiet then it will suit me nicely.

And at £98 I could not resist! :D

Just to let anyone who's interested know; I've been running the F1 since the weekend with no problems at all.

I haven't noticed any difference in speed over my 7200.10s tbh, but its a lot quieter than 3 7200.10s whirring away.

You can still hear it seeking, but when its idle I can't hear it at all.

I got 2 Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB (total to 2TB) seem good one -- run so quieter and run fast than my old Seagate 7200.10 750GB... I bought one from OCUK and one other online (sorry cant say where it from) - it good to grab for 1TB at cheap price.
