Samsung F1 or Seagate .11?

I am currently looking in to getting some 750GB drives. I have always gone seagate but the .11's at the moment seem to be having problems with firmware?

The samsung F1's are £10 cheaper but comes with 2 years less warranty. The warranty doesn't really bother me so is it best going for the samsung drive? I am sure its meant to be quicker than the 750GB .11 anyway?

What about noise levels, which one is quieter? I could have sworn I saw something putting me off the samsung the other day but perhaps I am going mad.

Any thoughts welcome.

Samsung drives will probably be slightly faster and quieter... but I'd still stick with seagate they are much more reliable from my experience... Since 1996 or so I haven't had a single seagate drive die - and some of them are churning away 24x7, while I've binned plenty of drives by other manufactueres including a few samsung.

Hmm I think your right. However gonna wait a little longer to make sure I dont get one of the dodgy batch with the cache disabled.

There seem to be a few dodgy Samsung F1 750GB drives out there too. I had one and it seemed to be ok but after I copied a batch of stuff to it I found a few things had CRC errors. I then ran the Samsung diagnostics tool and the drive failed on "Check M.C - ECC error" which I assume would mean the drive's cache is knackered which would explain the CRC errors.

Anyway from Googling around a bit, it seems there's quite a few drives that are failing in the same way so I RMA'ed the drive and decided to hold off a while longer, or I might just get a Seagate.

same here my samsung was quiet and fast for a while till it died without warning, lost everything i had:(

I am deffo going to wait a few more weeks before I take the plunge. I will be setting up a RAID 1 array with them either way so wont have to worry as much about a drive dying but would rather not have the hassel of RMA :)
