The 40" Samsung LE40M86Bd arrived this morning. Setup was pretty seamless and using the tips for getting the output right on hdtvtest I think I'm fairly happy with the results!

High Def Lord Of the Rings in 1080p:

I think I need a decent tv stand!

Looks pretty nice. Looking to get the M87 (exact same only shop labels differently). Are there meant to be black bars at the top and bottom of the screen seeing as it is a widescreen monitor? Dunno if they are meant to be there, don't know anything about TV's

Yes 2:35 films will have borders on the top and bottom. Scaling and de-interlacing on these Samsungs are rubbish, so I'd only send native progressive to the panel. Nothing < interlaced.

Also change from puke inducing Dynamic to Movie. These are my settings

Movie
Contrast 90
Brightness 50
Colour 48
Sharpness 30
Colour temp normal
Picture mode - Just scan
Dynamic contrast - disabled
Active Colour- disabled
DNI-E - disabled
Movie Plus - disabled
Black adjust- disabled
Energy Saving - disabled
Movie Plus -disabled.

Oooh, pretty.

I ordered it's brother (M87) on Sunday. The website where i ordered it said then said there was no stock on Monday and Tuesday. They telephoned me yesterday to say it's out of stock, but i came home, checked their website and it was showing in stock again, and still is. They still haven't shipped it.

Oh the joys of e-commerce.

EDIT: TV has arrived out of the blue this morning, and i happen to have the day off. Play time!

I've had the 46" version of this set for a few months now - very happy with it :)
There is a great settings thread on AVForums too, worth a look!

Trick!

Can I ask how much you paid for this please mate?

I'm in the market and would like to know I'm getting a good deal :)

Had the same tv since July and it's such a fantastic TV

For standard TV it's not all that great, but for what I use it for, HD content and gaming, nothing beats it that I've seen

Few of my mates have some very expensive TV's, Pioneer and Sony included, and the picture quality isnt even close to mine

Any chance of a link please mate

Cant find it, EDIT - never mind found it :)

What is SDTV like on it? Im hoping to get the M87 soon, but probably wont get Sky HD for awhile until it gets more content.

SDTV is acceptable. Not quite as good as a Pioneer plasma. Quality will depend on channel bitrate, channels with higher compression look a bit ropey. Setting sharpness to really low setting is a must (0-20)
