Samsung PB22-J 256GB SSD (new must have SSD)

We will have these available first thing for around £490 +VAT. They're not going to be that cheap sadly but more around the Intel's for performance.

Glad OCUK will be getting stock, the capacity and speed looks just right (for me), but with a c£560 (inc VAT) pricetag it is not at the price I am willing to pay for that yet. When it gets to £300-400 (inc VAT) it gets much more tempting. Need to wait a little while longer :(

Slackworth, can you comment on if these use the "Summit" Samsung Controller that OCZ have been demonstrating?

I think it is the Summit

When you look at the (early sample) picture of the Summit from Anadtech
http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531&p=22

and compare it to the picture of the Samsung from Reghardware it looks like the same thing.
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/03/17/review_storage_ssd_samsung_mmd0e56g5/page2.html

I just read the page on Anandtech again (read the entire article yesterday and its too long to stay focussed) and if I am understanding it correctly then it is indeed the same thing. They do promise "a detailed investigation into the Summit and Samsung’s controller for another article"

I'll actually be a bit disappointed if it is the Summit, atm the Summit firmware is like the original Vertex firmware and optimized for epeen sequential write numbers instead of random writes to improve IOPS, and thus the more general user experience.
If they reoptimize, it looks to potentially be an Intel beater, as it is you're better off with a Vertex.

Reckon they will make a 128GB version with the same cache and speeds? If so, I'd like a taste of that!
This 256GB one looks amazing but is a little out of my price range.
