Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, I was wondering what to make of the sammy... OK so its got:

32" of real estate compared to 30" of the Dell
3xHDMI for connectivity (amongst the other usual connections found on both)
15000:1 contrast ratio compared to the 3000:1 of the 3008
"only(!)" 1920x1200 resolution compared to 2560x1600 of the Delly
but what really catches my eye is that its HALF THE PRICE OF THE 3008!

Has anyone had any experiences yet with this LCD? I am interested in it as a genuine competitor to the mighty Dell 3008, what does everyone else think? Maybe I'm missing something blindingly obvious as to why the Dell should be the better purchase but when you put the points to pen and paper, it doesn't stand out as much as it should against the sammy....

I would definatly go for the Samsung with the 1920x1080p resolution, the Dell 30" has a ridicouls 2560x1600 - which means you're gonna be forever buying new graphics cards to cope with that resolution.

Sammy would be what I'd got for; and plus with the added 3 HDMI slots, you got the potential to add other hardware like a games console/blu ray player etc.

depends in what way you want it to compete? If you need the increased res at that size for work (e.g. programming, editing photos etc) then the Dell is the no-brainer with the increased res. It's also an IPS panel so the colour repro will probably be much better (but will need calibration as it's a wide-gamut model).

If you're just after something for gaming and watching hd content you'll be better off with the sammy...lower res and probably lower input lag (the scaler on the Dell adds a hell of a lot).

Is the samsung not a TV rather than LCD monitor, I think the problem you have is in comparing apples to oranges.

I dont pretend to know much about monitors, however, there definitely seems to be a growing wave of users who are starting to use LCD TVs as monitors and having witnessed it firsthand from friends who use them, I gotta say that there genuinely seems to be less distinction between the two forms.

I totally agree with the earlier comment re: increased res size for specific applications, however, from a gaming point of view, surely 1920x1200 is sufficient? I have friends who use a 37" LCD TV with the relatively low res of 1366x768 and even that looks fine so surely 1920x1200 would be more than adequate.

My initial reaction upon hearing of the release of the sammy was "what the.... why would anyone want to pay over £600 for a 32"er when for a hundred more you can get yourself a kickass 40" Sammy? However, taking into consideration the comparison to the Dell 3008, I feel that now this price really isn't so bad!

Could the new 32" Sammy be what the majority of people are looking for in a true "all in one" solution??
