Hi,

I bought this drive a while ago and am using its as a huge dump for files

However, lately I notice it kind of needs to spin up occassionaly before I can read files on the drive - once it spun up (i can hear it spinning) its fine.

Its like it spins down when not in use (not using it for my OS drive) and needs to spin up again once I open the drive).

Any ideas? Is this normal?

Yeah it's normal for it to stop, however it shouldn't take long at all for it to spin up. How long does it take?

Yeha my 750 and 1 tb do this.
They spin down when not being used to save power im guessing. Theres a slight pause if you click on the drive but its not too long and you know its doing something cause you can hear it starting!

Maybe a couple of seconds at most. Only thought it was weird as I've had it before on any harddrive, although this is the bigger capacity drive I have.

You can stop it spinning down in the power options in control panel.

ah cheers just found that option. Was set to turn off hd's after 20 mins

If its only a dump drive does it matter that its always on? Mines the same, but a could have seconds spin up isn't so bad. Its not like its you boot drive.

I have the same with a pair of these F1 drives in RAID 1 for storage and the delay waiting for them to spin up is nothing really.
