Evening all.

I own a Samsung UE55ES8000 TV which has been absolutely faultless for the 4 years I've owned it. Ive had no picture/power/sound/software issues at all.

Until today.

Its randomly started turning its self off and instantly back on again. This happens every 2-3 minutes or so. This happens about 5-6 times then it'll stop doing it and the tv is fine again. This seems to take place every time the tv is turned off and then turned back on again later on.

The tv is wall mounted but barely gives out a hint of heat where it is. Ive also tried turning off at the mains, checking software updates etc and everything seems fine but the problem persists.

Does anyone have any advice?

i don't think the tv is in warranty anymore as it was an ex-demo model from Richer Sounds. I also spent many hours calibrating the picture so ideally i don't want to factory reset

Thanks!

Not a Samsung, but our Sony 4K TV does that occasionally. In our case it appears the Android operating system/firmware decides it needs to reboot, comes back then doesn't do it for another six weeks.

Unless you have an extended warranty, the cost of trying to get an intermittent fault diagnosed and repaired on a four year old TV probably isn't worth it - especially if it is a firmware issue.

Had a similar issue with my son's tv. 52 inch Sammy. Turned out it was a common fault, I called samsung they came around swapped the board at the back.....hey presto all fixed. Zero charge. Was out of warranty as well

I remember also having a similar fault with a 52" samsung, happened just out of warranty. Kept doing it every time it was turned on until it eventually just didnt turn on.
Turned out to be a blown capacitor on the power board. Replaced the capacitor (cost about 20p) and not happened since.

I had this with my Samsung 58", cannot remember model but this went on for almost a year, it also had a habit of just sitting there "clicking" on and off when switched on occasionally and also it would sometimes, about three times a week, be on when I came downstairs first thing in the morning but the red "off" LED would still be on . Three times they took it away, as every time the engineer came, it obviously worked perfectly :p .

Eventually on the fourth visit, I was lucky enough to have it happen while the guy was here. IIRC it was something faulty with the power board/transformer.

After they fixed it, it ran perfectly for 18 month, then it developed the well known purple screen issue, had a new screen fitted, three month later it went purple again. This time it went away and I received a cheque for £1000, which is exactly what I paid for it from Best Buy, 6 weeks before they pulled out of the UK :D. Funny thing is, I had no correspondence from anyone whatsoever, or even a covering letter, just an envelope with a 1k cheque inside...weird.

Well my TV seems to fixed its self for the time being....

If it begins again i'll probably give Samsung a call, but at the minute all is hunky dory.

How bizarre.

If it gets to a point where you have nothing to lose, I'd open the tv up and have a look at the board. Chances are its a capacitor issue (you should notice if one of the caps is gone because it will be swollen compared to any others) if that's the case replacing it for less than a £ should sort it. Good luck! :)
