Santander mess up yet again

I cannot go into detail unfortunately but it has happened.

Basically it is impersonation fraud which also involves hijacking the customers phone line.

Fair enough.

The same way that someone can steal your life and identity by just having a bank statement ;)

How would you steal someones identity with a bank statement?

Well for starters if you get sent someone else's statement which includes there full name address DOB etc, this information can easily be used to steal someone identity.

Also with the statement you could easily then contact the bank and then access the account over the phone and then transfer money to another account.

The security questions over the phone you could quite easily answer as you usually get asked what recent transactions have you made, with the statement in front of you you would pass security and then have full access, this is shocking from Satander.

Is that enough ?

So you think all you need to access someones account is a copy of their statement? There is more to security than stating information which is on the statement. Date of birth wouldn't be on it either.

I'm not defending Santander, my Abbey Business online account got hacked, so I know they ain't the best security wise. But I don't think it's as easy to commit fraud as you think.

I've been waiting 7 months for them to change my ISA from an Issue 5 to Issue 6. I'm currently getting a lot less interest than I should but all 5 of my letters have been lost in the post so there's nothing they can do :o

I wont list the amount of problems ive had with them over the years,im so glad im banking elsewhere now.

How does that work. So if I know a friends name and address I can steal their identity. Banks would get in a lot of trouble if you managed to steal someones money by just phoning up and giving them details found on a bank statement.

Santander stole money out of my account after signing me up for a payment protection scheme without my consent and signature. I fought them for 6 months trying to get the money back and they admitted they were wrong but said they couldn't work out how to reverse it on the computers...

I ended up going to the Financial Ombudsman who quickly got my money back for me. They said I could have rejected the refund and taken it further for a chance of compensation but I was so sick, I just wanted what I was owed.

I've just had a letter from Santander telling me a £250 cash withdrawal on 2nd Nov wasn't posted from my account and will now be debited on the 10th Feb 2011, now I honestly can't remember taking this cash out and never use withdrawal slips to save the earth etc, is there anyway I can request proof of this withdrawal?

I received a letter explaining exactly what was happening with the sort codes. Furthermore, despite now having a new sort code, I can continue to use the old sort code and none of my direct debits are affected, as the letter explained to me

You must have been one of the lucky ones. I never received such a letter, and I have had nothing but trouble with Satander ever since. The one thing that I could not believe, that was I was being charged for a non payment with my Satander Zero CC. I mean come on, does the left hand not know what the right one is doing?

Time to move to a bank that actually knows how to treat their customers a lot better!

Me neither. Santander have proved to be the biggest bunch of amateurs since I've had an account open with them and the two times I've taken my normally very close eye off the account have cost me nearly £200 in charges.

The staff are next to useless, there's always a huge queue and they can't reslove anything in-branch; it's all got to be done using telephone banking. What's the point in having a branch then?

And then there was all the hoop-jumping that had to be done to get the account open in the first place. Really, alarm bells should have been riuning at that point.

People complain about other high street banks but, to be honest, unless you've banked with Abbey/Santander you don't know how good you've had it.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that they have done this and it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people struggle to get back anything lost that was a result of their screw up.
