Hi, Folks i have a big dilemma i have a 5850 and a TV tuner in my system ive rang overclockers and they have said ati cards conflict with TV tuners but i do need this TV tuner because i dont have any other way of watching tv, i use my samsung monitor for watching TV any suggestions ? i dont really want to have to return it :( i might hav to sell it and go back to Nvidia. I didnt have a problem before till i got this card in games this card is brilliant.

Hmm... in what way is it conflicting?

The only time I have had tv tuner cards conflicting with ati cards in the past is when you used ati's all in wonder cards with their own tuner. Perhaps its a conflict in codecs/hardware decompression of mpeg etc rather than a card conflict?

What tuner card are you using?

(edit: You could try disabling the video acceleration option in CCC, and disabling hdmi audio driver for the card to see if that helps).

its a hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T-PCI Model 90002 sorry not so much flickering but green artifacts on screen then it freezes up and says drivers have stopped responding and have recovered but only does this when watching TV games are brilliant. I rang overclockers and they said all amd cards conflict with TV tuners because they thinks its anthor graphics card installed thats the problem :( never had this issue with NV cards

anyone any suggestions ???

It would help if you weren't so vague with your original post. What are you full system specs, OS (32bit or 64bit), what TV card do you have and how old is it? The more detail the better.

You might also want to check out the manufacturers website (of your TV card) as they might have the solution on their site.

Erm - ok, so you are able to play games with the ati card ok when the tv tuner card is installed? Its only when you try watching TV that you have problems?

If there was a conflict as described above, then the ati driver would be trying to use the tv tuner for desktop/games too...

Most modern tv tuner cards use directx to overlay the incoming tv signal onto the desktop/screen. I would check to see if there are any known issues with your configuration on the hauppauge website (found their support to be very good when I last used them a couple of years back) as well as perhaps updating directx to the latest release. Looks up directx update on microsoft downloads page.

As posted above though, do you have anymore information on your configuration? Are you using the latest drivers for both cards, direct x etc?

I've used a video capture card (pretty much the same thing as a tuner just video in only) with various ati cards with no problems.

Given the popularity of ATI cards, I would think this is a known issue and probably has a fix or suggested work around on hauppauge's website.

That's not even remotely true, I think they're either trying to fob you off because they can't be bothered helping, or they're saying it in the hopes that you buy another card.

I've had plenty of ATi cards and TV cards in the same PC, for years now, I've always had them together for about 7 years now, never had any such issue of them conflicting.

So all "AMD" cards definitely don't conflict with TV tuners, I've even had 2 TV tuners in the same PC as 2 ATi cards with no issues.

Also, what software are you using with this TV card?

Well I am running a sapphire 5870 and a hauppage win tv 4000 (can't remember exactly the model number) and I have no conflicts whatsoever. Have you come from an Nvidia card to ATI without a windows reinstall?

in all honesty I think you are having problems because you changed gpu manufacturer without a fresh windows install. If I were you I would take out your TV card and reinstall windows and install latest catalyst drivers, then put your TV card back in and let windows install its drivers and see how you get on before doing anything rash like selling your nice new 5850 :)

i have done a fresh install but the tv tuner was already plugged in is that going to make any difference ? right im going to try rebooting with the tv tuner inside or take it out before rebooting ?

sometimes it can, when I did an install with the tv tuner in I had problems with media centre not recognising the card so did a fresh install without the card in then installed the card and let windows install the drivers for it and it worked fine after that. I am not saying it will work for you but it worked for me and it may be worth a try for yourself :)

well.... ive rebooted and the problems still there green and purple streaks on the screen :( but... no driver stopped working yet!!!!

have you just restarted windows?
try uninstalling the tv drivers, take out your tv card, reboot in safe mode and run driver sweep to get rid of any old nvidia drivers and shutdown. put your tv card back in your pc, reboot and let windows install the tv card drivers and see how you get on
