Good evening,

I currently have a BFG 8800GT OC 512MB which I want to upgrade to a new GPU which has atleast 2x DVI (for my monitors) and 1x HDMI so I can hook it up to my TV.

I have my eye on this "Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [11163-00-20R]" see link: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-222-SP

My only concern is the length. Is any one able to tell me what the length is of this card?. I have an Antec P182 with 6 hard drives and its a little tight with my 8800GT:

I am not really clued up with whats the "best" GPU to get in my price range but this one ticks the boxes with the connectors I want and it would appear it is a "silent" graphics card (silence is important to me).

Any help appreciated.

Specifications
Card length from back plate to end of PCB: 210 mm
Card height from top of PCI socket to top of PCB: 105 mm

Taken from another website, sorry don't think i can link it. as per sig i have one and it looks a good bit shorter than the one in your pic

and it is whisper quiet even with a slight overclock

hope this helps

Much appreciated! I did have a google for the ATi card length but I didn't have much luck. Apparently the 8800GT is 230mm long so that'll give me a bit of room (I will measure it tomorrow to make sure).

Thanks again for the help!

no problem mate

i simply googled 'what length is vapor x 5770'

specs came from fifth result down. quite a comprehensive review of the vapor x if ya wanna read

I have another question. Will each monitor that is plugged in to the card work independantly, for example can I have a movie playing on the TV via HDMI, outlook on one monitor and internet explorer on the other monitor?

I have never had an ATi card and I am not sure if it will just spread my entire desktop across all 3 screens (I think its called panning). The way my current dual monitors work is in "dualview" in the nvidia options and I use ultramon to give me a second taskbar which I like and want to use but with 3 monitors using the 5770.

You'll be fine size-wise. Mine doesn't even reach the second half of the RAM slots, let alone the edge of the motherboard. :)

From that photo is all appears that you could also relocate one or two hard drives to 5.25" bays with an adapter. Even on the P182 with lacks the P183's vented blanking plates there is some airflow around across those bays - worked fine for me in the past.

Yeah I had thought about relocating the hard drives to the 5.25" bays but if I can avoid it I will. Any thoughts on my second question above?

Right, finally going to get one of these but I am still unclear if it can do what I want:

Never having an ATi card before, am I able to run dual monitors independantly so, for example, if I maximise an application it only fills one monitor and doesn't try to fill across both.

Secondly if I connect my HDMI TV to the graphics card as well, will this work independently so I can watch a movie on the TV and still email/surf on my monitors?

Hi sorry for hijacking but I'm intersted in upgrading to this card from a Sapphire X1900 512MB, what I'm wondering is will it work on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 motherboard? I saw something about PCI-E 2.1 in the cards spec but not sure if the motherboard supports this. Also will an Akasa 500W GreenPower PSU be enough to power this card?

The rest of the spec is: 4gb Corsair RAM, 750GB Samsung F1 Spinpoint HDD, 160GB Samsung Spinpoint HDD, Intel Core2Duo e6300 CPU and Windows 7 64bit.

Thank you.

Yes and Yes, you'll be fine on both accounts.

I'm thinking about moving to a 5770 from my 8800GT as well, I'm assuming its a fairly significant jump in performance?
