SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

I can't imagine a 480 being anywhere near a 980ti ever, no matter how bad the ti is at DX12. They are just in a totally different performance league.

And I've just bought a 480, so no dog in this race.

No one would think that about a 3 year old HawaiiXT and yet here it is...

Same, the 480s only 970 performance, 980Ti smashes it to bloody bits.

At least 50% faster, so really £320 ti is a much better proposition than a £250 480.

A £200 480 tho is the same perf/£.

If AMD *can* lower the 480's pricing, at least the 8GB, then perhaps they ought to. I really don't think an extra 4GB justified a £50 price difference.

Why is the MSI Gaming X 480 £300? I'd buy one if it was around same price as the Sapphire Nitro.. are they even selling at that price?

It's been stated before that the price of the MSI is artificially high ATM. The price will come down soon-ish i'd imagine.

"At least 50% faster than a 970", i'm not having that.... :p its not, not anything like that... and the 480 is faster than the 970.

35%

Real world benchmarks.

Also perhaps a math fail on your part... your own benchmarks show the 970 as 69% of a 980 ti.

970 = 980ti * 0.69

970 * 1.45 = 980 ti.

So the 980 ti is at least 45% faster.

Because 1/0.69 = 1.45.

It's a fair test. It would only not be a fair test if one was dx9 and the other a different API.

It wasn't even a fair test back in 2007 when i first came across it, it was old then, its not representative of anything from the twenty first century.

Is there much perf difference between the Sapphire 480's and the MSI Radeon RX 470 Gaming X or Sapphire Nitro+ OC 470 8GB versions?

Whats the average % here?

Im just thinking about getting a card that'll tide me over until Vega.

Are you going to tell us that the move from dx9 to dx11 favours one side more than the other?

Are you also going to say that only dx12 vs dx12 is a "fair test" "in the 21st century"?

Because I don't think many people are going to buy that line. The 980ti's 50% advantage doesn't disappear in dx11 as your own benchmarks have already confirmed...

... so I'm really not sure what you're railing against. If the dx11 benchmarks are showing the same thing the dx9 benchmarks show, then what's the problem?

You just don't want to acknowledge that the 980ti walks all over the 480. I *bought* a 480, and I'm happy to admit the 980ti is 50% faster.

I've been hearing a lot about needing to update MoBo BIOS for the card to work, and I'm getting my 480 next week. Is this something for all boards, or just some? Mine hasn't had any updates since 2010 :I

Some do, some don't, there's lots of evidence for both if you google around. For example I had to update the bios on my board (msi p67a gd53) to get my rx 480 to work. Others have been fine. When testing I also put the same card into a Z68 board & this worked straight away!

Newer mobos won't be a problem. I imagine you'll probably have to update yours.

I can believe it.. but when i live 10-15 minutes away from OcUK, well thats a good thing for any sort of RMA if i need it. :D

See if they will match price. Gibbo said the Gaming X would come down in price as supply increased. At least one supplier in the UK has held stock of the Gaming X for the last 48 hours (still has stock). You never know!
