SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

My AMD fanboyism is pretty strong right now, but even I might consider changing my order right now if I hadn't gotten in on the £10 cheaper Nitro OC version from the early preorder, and that put the cards price just under the value to avoid tax when importing into my country. Getting anything more expensive will cost me £30-40 in tax, and this was already the limit of my budget.

Posting 'I just bought a 1060 instead' hardly leads to any meaningful discussion though.

That card has nothing to do with this thread and we've had a number of posts like that already so I would enjoy reading here if it weren't full of that thanks :)

Rival thread? It is clear how you view things. I'm mostly company agnostic.

He doesn't need to justify himself to you, and neither does anyone else. You stir the pot up all the time, and then try telling someone they can't post. Okay.......... ... .. .

EDIT: Frankly... so what? AMD and partners should have got their act together. The fact is they didn't, and now they are losing sales. It has nothing to do with the card itself, only that you can't buy the darn thing.

In case you haven't noticed AMD and Nvidia are rival companies. I couldn't care less if someone buys a certain card and posts as such in the relevant thread.

So... for those happy to wait, have we been doing any Steam shopping in preparation? I certainly have :-)

New games I've purchased are Doom and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I'm not sure Doom looks that fun but I wanted to see Vulcan in all its glory. I haven't even looked to see what kind of a game Shadow of Mordor is but they use it in a lot of benchmarks and it seems like my kind of game! (darn Steam sales)

I've also pre-installed Crysis & Bioshock 2 - never played either (again, Crysis is more just to see what all the hype is about). My best mate will want me to play Squad so I've put that on too but not overly excited about that one.

WoW is on, I know it doesn't need a 480 but it's nice to crank all the settings up without the card having to work to hard. Oh and Battlefield 4, again not my favorite game but fun after a few drinks especially if it's running nice & smooth.

I suspect the 480 will only be challenged in the first two @1080p?

Middle Earth is still one of the best games for taxing a card. It puts a lot of strain on the whole system. An hour in SoM is a far better test than a few runs of Firestrike.

I have a slight AMD bias however communication about pre orders has been poor, the queue situation seems bizzare, you have people seemingly ordering later in a few cases and getting cards and the ETA date for any meaningful quantity of cards seems to be slipping each week. If I had a half reasonable card right now I might have waited however when there are AIB 1060 cards available for £20 cheaper right now it takes a strong will and more brand loyalty than I have to poke up with this.

It's odd. I've got plenty to play on PS4 this weekend (Abzu, Rebel Galaxies) but I've convinced myself the shipment on the 5th will fulfil my order in time for Saturday.

It's quite disheartening to hear people getting theirs next day when they ordered 4 days after me. The Zotac 1060 Mini has come down in price by a tenner and is in stock elsewhere so I was thinking about getting one of those. It's meant to be the slightly faster card (definitely in DX11) but I'm just not so sure about future DX12 performance.

from a neutral standpoint i'd find it hard to pick the 480 if 1060's were going cheaper. I went for the £199 RX480 Nitro+ because i believe it presents the best value for me the next year. It's quiet (though i have a very good case for noise: Define R5) and fast at 1080p. nuff said.

Information given this morning for those who want it when I inquired about an update

"Thankyou for your webnote, our ETA's given by the manufacturer directly are 05/08 and the 12/08, these are estimated dates given by the supplier, we cannot guarantee them and therefore cannot say they will definitely arrive on said date."

No word on amounts of stock on either delivery.

I want to play GTA V which I've had a while but haven't installed yet. Figured I'd wait til I can do something nifty with the graphics rather than turn it all down lol.

Nothing else baught yet, however I'm looking at No Man's Sky, Civ6, BF1 and Dishonored 2.
Gonna be a great 2016 for games for me I think :)
My YouTube channel could do with some up-to-date stuff too haha

I've always had a preference to sapphire over the years. But i must say I don't understand why anyone would preorder this particular card, or put up with the delays in delivery. The nitro heatsink is a real cheap out in construction and the temps and headroom reflect this. Don't believe then look at sapphires 380 cooler, or even the 7870 dual x which uses 4 heatpipes and a much bigger base of copper. The nitro 480 is a good card but it should be 200 max, it's currently too expensive.

Yep,looking forward playing that one as well. I know I'm incurable as I bought two of these Nitro's ,one off here and one off a another e-tailer (remains to be seen which one arrives first ;) ) .GTA should run quite nicely on CF from what I have read ,so it will be all good fun :D

Edit. For some reason the quote got lost, oh well...

Thats not actually the case though. I you want a Zotac or a Palit 1060 they are £10 more....an equivalent build quality 1060 to the Sapphire 480 8gb is like £30 or £40 more.
