It's time to review a few of the broadband connections I look after for work(6 ADSL connections for home working via VPN etc), we've also got a few new users coming online over the next 3 months. All users are in non LLU area's with most being unlikley to ever see LLU due to the rural location's, that also excludes cable.

We currently have all links through efhbroadband on the 512k unlimited service and this has been superb and despite the bandwidth used we've never had any grief. Having looked into the total usage of each line at least two and most probably three users would breach FUP on most of todays max providers for bandwidth usage - strangely enough they are the ones with kids

My question is who - if anyone- provides at least 512k and ideally more without an overly restrictive cap ?

From what i've read AOL seem to fit the bill and i've not heard of anyone moaning about cap's, A/FUP or traffic restrictions - the software they bundle yes, but the connection no. Personally I don't like the idea of AOL but each user has a supported modem/router and the migration users wouldn't be tied to a contract, anyone got a better suggestion ?

Cheers :)

*edit* How about Clara.net ?

AOL is about the only unlimited ISP going that doesn't have any restrictions afaik. I wasn't a heavy downloader by any means, but people i know download upwards of 500GB p/m and they've never said anything. :)

/Awaits loadsamoney's reply ;)

I propbably fit into that 500GB p/m category, and my connections still going strong, no restrictions at all, always get my full download speeds whatever time of day or night, i'll be going blind at this rate ;) oh your over there :D can't fault it at all, and you don't have to use any of the Software either as i don't. :D

You don't mention if there is a price limit on the connections?

You can get MAX Unlimited for snip under £100 from UKFSN and its an unlimited connection :)

Cheers for the reply's, if I can get past my preconcieved hatred of AOL I think I know where we'll be going. Most of our users hit less than 60GB, and i'm not bothered about what they use out of hours so much tbh I just don't want to be getting grief from an isp/user when they go over quota and/or we get billed for additional user bandwidth.

My bad fro not covering a budget but w're paying £17.99 a month atm, we don't mind paying more but £100 a user is pushing it slightly, I will consider UKFSN for the office link though.

AOL sucks, i got a email saying i get 8mb line on the 06/09/06 yesterday , today still no upgrade so got in contact with them and they say wait abit longer but isnt that the whole point of the email giving me a date for it then not getting it and they dont say why or when ill get it agian so

Perhaps that would have something to do with the way the max service works and your line syncing for the first 7-10 days ?

Please, what are you downloading that takes up 500GB a month and thats not illegal games, music and movies. I really dont believe your downloading that amount of data.

no one asked you to believe anything? also, you don't know everything about what everyone does on the internet. in fact, why the hell did you make that post at all? it has nothing to do w/ the topic of this thread.

Well theres a wee word or two on caps and it was talked about, big deal. Now come on 500gb what on earth can you be downloading that takes that much. I used to download like mad and could never use 30gb a month.

AOL have been fine for us. Always a stable connection and download as much as you want and they never say anything. And you dont have to use their software.

Streaming TV/Radio
Online Gaming/Patches/Mods etc
Running a business
Downloading Legal Content from the web (i.e. movie clips, vista beta's etc)

There's a hell of a lot of data that can be downloaded legally from fast servers, so that 500GB per month can be achieved. Remember that most leave their PC's on overnight so and extra 12hrs of downloading can be done. ;)

Did i mean 500gb literally, i think not. :p

I probably do less than 100gb, but more than 50gb probably so that would probably class me as a heavy user. :)

i think AOL is pretty great only if u use a router and not there software me and the rest of the people on my home network must download about 100-150gb a month with no issues whatsoeve no packet filtering/shaping either which is great although i doubt it will last very long with the rest of the isps doing it
