Just a quick question - if I want to open a savings account with the same bank I have my current account with (for about 12 yrs) would that involve a credit check?

Since when has opening a savings account needed a credit check? You're giving the bank money rather than the other way round.

I'm not great with finances (hence not having a savings account). Just never sure what involves a credit check. Out of interest would it have been different if it was with someone other than "my" bank?

If it's a different bank then I suspect the max they'd do is check your identity, bills, drivers licence etc. With the same bank you could probably do it through your online banking and it would be set up nearly instantly.

Nope...my savings account with Natwest who Im already with was open instantly after applying, showed up on my online banking the next day.
