This is a bit of an odd one, having been in a very minor bump on an A road fairly recently. I now find I am absolutley petrified of speedy motorways.

Driving myself isn't quite as bad but still pretty scary.

So ummm any suggestions on how to get over this? :o

Driving on the proper side of the motorway is always a good start.

Hard to believe in this day and age that people still can't grasp that concept of there being a proper side to drive on.

Motorways are pretty safe really, as long as you check over your shoulder when changing lane etc you should be fine.
Why not just stay in the "slow lane"? This isnt very fast, most people seem to do 50-70 max in the slow lane. There are many narrow twisty roads that are quicker than that.

Yea i was going to say, whats the term 'slow lane' he refers to?

Just go out and force yourself to do it, basically the longer you let the fear run you the harder it will be to get over it.

I would imagine a driving school would be perfectly happy to give you a couple of motorway driving lessons to help you gain confidence ( along the lines of pass plus )

That would make sense to ease back into it, then its just getting back into the habit I guess. Best of luck :)

I see you live in Bristol. How about I take you for a blast up the M32 in my rex? You know, facing your fear and all that. By the end of it You'll either be cured, or a complete blubbering mess....... ;)

I was the same when I first started driving, however after the scares you just get used to it and now I don't skip a beat when overtaking or changing lanes, and am comfortable enough that I tend to notice other drivers mistakes.

It's just like falling off of a bike or a horse. Get straight back on and on with the job.

As suggested earlier, a pass plus course would be a great idea. :)

i would say that if youre worried about them youre more likely to make bigger mistakes due to not thinking clear as youre nervous.

how long were you driving beforehand? were you confident then?
