School uniform cost

Its about average for good quality, no frills footwear for a child. Some of the rich kids £135 wouldn't even stretch to one of the half dozen pairs of shoes that don't even last 6 months before out of fashion they get through in a year.

My mum is a head teacher at an infant school in one of the pooer parts of Essex. For whatever reason, a footballer playing for Spurs decided to send his daughter to my mum's school.

She'd turn up in £400 Prada shoes when most of the kids were wearing £3 plimsolls. :o

Not if your school insists on embroidered badged uniform that can only be bought from a handful of shops in the local area. Trousers/skirts etc are fine, but jumpers, blazers and cardigans are hard to source.

My sons school jumpers have the school logo on and there only £11 and the polo shirts there £9

Far from it,i fill shelves at a supermarket,i put my daughter first in everything,my daughter has good shoes/boots to walk in,would you do the same ?

I don't live lavishly,i work hard and provide for my daughter as every parent should.

My sons friend has very expensive school shoes but he dosent brag or say anything about it

Don't really see the point in expensive shoes for kids. I bought Nikes and Addidas trainers for my 4 year old and they were worn a handful of times. Fairly pointless when comparing Tesco trainers at a 1/3 of the price.

You go clarkes and they insist on putting the kid in shoes which are clearly far too big. Last pair of clarkes I bought I had to sign the receipt because the size the girl wanted to put my daughter in was just laughably too big.

Even my 15 year old wanted black converse for school which I bought and she's kanckered them within a month or so. One pair of my cons are close to 5 years old and mostly intact :)

Clothes - last set of clothes I bought for the 4 year old was from Next - very overpriced - I want to say "tat" but in fairness the clothes are nice quality. For what I paid from Next I could clothe her for the whole winter from Tesco.

I honestly wonder whether even winning the lottery would I change my spending habbits?

Totally depends on the school. Sometimes you don't have a choice what the costs are.

Eton tail coats are £500 each and you need two. My daughter needs a £100 tweed blazer and my son wears tesco trousers and the schools polo shirts and jumpers.

I will buy them decent school shoes from Clarks which last all year. My son burns through trainers at the moment so he gets £5 shoe zone specials

2 shops sell my sons school uniform but there both the same price

Plus the jumpers and polo shirts must have the school logo on so I can't buy supermarket ones like i did when my son was at primary school

£400 pound school shoes that's ridiculous

Depends how much you earn...

Someone racking in 20k a week isn't going to think twice about spending 400 quid on some shoes. Someone who makes 20k a year would consider a 400 quid pair of shoes as a luxury buy.

Still very expensive most I would spend on shoes is £40 the most expensive shoes my son has are his football boots they cost £36

I went to school with the offspring of a lot of wealthy people - high ranking politicians, world medical experts, actors, films directors.
Without fail every single one of those kids was shabbily dressed. One memory that sticks out was playing football with the kid who played James in James and the Giant Peach - he didn't have boots, he wore white plimsolls, ankle socks, holy shorts and a t-shirt that was far too small for him.

Toffs always dress like tinks so its only right that the kids follow suit :p
