So it begins children to give biometric data to borrow books and hget school dinners ,why is that needed? I can tell you why its not, but its to condition the kids of today to except that kind of big brother tactics

I can tell you my child want be giving his details I would rather buy any book he needs and supply dinner.

This is yet another step towards a 'big brother' state.

My school has biometrics already for the library. I feel it is pretty much unecessary. We already had a perfectly good SMART Card system implemented, in which each student had a card with their picture, a unique number, their name, their form group and a colour signifying their year. The SMART Card could have money put on it for use in the dining hall.

The library used these for entry and then the old style of cardboard cards that were taken by the library once you borrowed a book.

They then implemented biometrics in the library, we all had out fingerprints taken and now we must use this biomtrics technology to take out books. I, personally, don't really mind, but I do feel it is a waste of resources. The SMART Card system should have been implemented in the library fully; it would have been easier than the biometrics system, and probably more reliable. I'm pretty sure that they still check the name of the pupil incase the system goes wrong, or something like that.

Yup, had my finger prints done at school a couple of weeks ago, had no choice in the matter.

you don't have to its not law, my son will not be submiting his (when he's old enough).

You see too many people just go along with it, thats what they want so after a while when they bring the law in so many people have had it done or know of someone whos has its no big deal then BANG its illegal not to.

I thought people were against ID card schemes, but here is one for kids introduced with no parental consent, no oversight and no law. Not even a debate. Schools *are not* prisons.

its the sneaky way to implement it, as from now on they have the data of everyone comming through the school system. yet another backhanded tactic by the blair goverment.

It isn't about implementing a better technology, its about getting the young citizens used to giving up their basic rights so when they leave school it wont be so much a shock when the whole population is subjected to this kind of total control.

its purpose is to condition.

We have an electronic canteen system. bit like the oyster card really.

Theres about 8 swipe/cash machines round school. You swipe your plastic card, and insert money. Effectivley gives you credit. Helped to speed up ques in the canteen, and stop people taking ages to count out money, also meant that the dinner ladies didnt have to count out change either.

It doubles as our library card too. You can give your finger prints to take out books, but its pointless i just use my card on the rare occasion( that i have never) checked a book out from our school library.

I have however, put books in my friends bags, so when they walk through the doors, it sets the alarm off and ****** the librarians off :D
